Easy Baby Food Steamed Egg Custard
This steamed egg custard is a simple and nutritious side dish for your baby, easily made with just eggs and other basic ingredients. It’s perfect for a baby’s meal or even a healthy snack. The smooth texture and mild flavor are sure to be a hit with your little one.
Main Ingredients
- 2 eggs
- 2 Tbsp milk (or 2 Tbsp infant formula)
- 25g minced beef
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Gather all your ingredients for the delicious baby food steamed egg custard. Prepare fresh eggs, milk (or formula) for your baby, and finely chopped vegetables and minced beef to add wonderful texture and flavor.
Step 2
Finely mince the vegetables like carrots, onions, and bok choy. Mincing them very finely will result in a smoother custard texture, making it easier for your baby to chew and enjoy.
Step 3
Also, mince the beef finely. This will help distribute the rich beef flavor throughout the custard and aids your baby in practicing chewing.
Step 4
In a mixing bowl, crack the 2 eggs. Add the prepared 2 Tbsp of milk (or formula). Then, add all the finely minced vegetables and beef. Whisk everything together gently with a whisk until well combined and smooth, ensuring there are no large lumps.
Step 5
Carefully transfer the mixture into a microwave-safe bowl or a baby food steamer. Place this bowl inside a pot with enough water for double-boiling (chawanmushi style). Bring the water to a simmer over medium heat and steam for approximately 20 minutes until the custard is set and jiggly. (Alternatively, if using a microwave, cover with plastic wrap or a lid and microwave on medium power for about 5-7 minutes, adjusting time as needed for your appliance.)
Step 6
After 20 minutes, check for doneness by inserting a chopstick or skewer into the center. If it comes out clean, the custard is cooked. If it’s still a bit wet, steam for another 2-3 minutes. Once cooked, remove from heat immediately.
Step 7
The freshly steamed egg custard will be very hot. It’s important to let it cool down to a safe temperature for your baby before serving, to prevent any burns to their mouth.
Step 8
Once slightly cooled, cut the steamed egg custard into bite-sized pieces or fun shapes for your baby. This nutritious and delicious steamed egg custard is now ready to be enjoyed! Serve it beautifully and watch your baby happily dig in.
