Ingredients

  • 2 ears of fresh corn
  • 2/3 Tbsp salt
  • 2 cups water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the corn by shucking it and rinsing it thoroughly under cold water. To fit two ears of corn comfortably into a 6-cup rice cooker, it’s best to break each ear in half and then in half again, creating four pieces per ear. This way, they fit perfectly, allowing for even cooking and better space utilization within the cooker.

Step 1

Step 2

To enhance the natural sweetness of the corn, add about 2/3 tablespoon of salt. The salt will surprisingly bring out the corn’s inherent sweetness, making it taste even more delicious. Pour 2 cups (approximately 400ml) of water into the rice cooker, enough to cover about two-thirds of the corn. Select the ‘Steam’ or ‘Quick Steam’ function on your rice cooker and set the timer for 20 minutes. (The exact function name may vary depending on your rice cooker model.)

Step 3

Once the steaming cycle is complete, allow the steam to release from the rice cooker before carefully removing the corn. Enjoy the corn while it’s warm to best appreciate the delightful balance between its natural sweetness and the subtle saltiness. Steamed corn makes for a perfect snack or a light meal substitute.
