Stir-Fried Fern Salad (Gosari Namul)

Tender and Soft, Deliciously Stir-Fried Fern Salad

Stir-Fried Fern Salad (Gosari Namul)

I’ve made a stir-fried fern salad that my family loves! The taste of fern salad can vary greatly depending on the seasoning used for stir-frying. This recipe uses a seasoning that everyone can enjoy and find delicious. Even though I stir-fried 1kg, which isn’t a small amount, it was gone in an instant! Haha. Preparing fern often requires quite a bit of trimming and cleaning, which can be tedious. However, this time, I used pre-trimmed ferns, making it incredibly easy to cook. My hands are healing well, so I need to make sure to enjoy more of the spring greens that are still available! This tender and soft fern salad is loved by everyone, young and old. Enjoy your delicious stir-fried fern! Have a wonderful holiday~♡

Main Ingredients

  • 1kg prepared fern

Stir-frying Seasoning

  • 4 Tbsp perilla oil
  • 3 Tbsp grapeseed oil
  • 2 Tbsp oyster sauce
  • 4 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp soup soy sauce (or Korean traditional soy sauce)
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Sesame seeds (toasted)
  • Scallions (chopped)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the trimmed fern. If you are using fresh fern, make sure to clean off any soil or debris and rinse it thoroughly several times. Drain the fern in a colander to remove excess water.

Step 2

To the drained fern, add the perilla oil and grapeseed oil. Stir-fry over medium-low heat, stirring constantly to prevent burning. Continue to cook for about 5-7 minutes until the fern becomes tender and softens.

Step 3

Once the fern is tender, add the stir-frying seasoning ingredients (oyster sauce, soy sauce, soup soy sauce, minced garlic) in order. Mix well with the fern, ensuring the seasoning coats everything evenly. Stir-fry for another 3-5 minutes until the seasoning is absorbed. Taste and adjust with salt if needed.

Step 4

Finally, sprinkle in the chopped scallions and toasted sesame seeds, and give it a final quick stir before turning off the heat. Transfer the finished stir-fried fern salad to a serving plate. It’s delicious served warm or after it has cooled slightly. Enjoy this tasty side dish!
