Strawberry Kiwi Jam (Reviving Hardened Kiwi Jam)
Reviving Rock-Hard Kiwi Jam: A Transformation with Strawberries
This recipe offers a solution for when your homemade jam becomes overcooked, turning into a solid mass too hard to spread, or if it’s excessively sweet or lacks flavor. Learn how to rescue and reinvent your jam into a delicious treat!
Ingredients- 200g Hardened Kiwi Jam
- 500g Fresh Strawberries
- 5 Tbsp Honey (or sugar, to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Observe the state of your kiwi jam – it has become more like a hard jelly than a spreadable jam. If it’s so solid you can barely scoop it, a successful transformation is definitely possible!
Step 2
Thoroughly wash the fresh strawberries under running water. You can use a fruit wash or a little baking soda for extra cleaning. Remove the green tops (hulls).
Step 3
Mash the prepared strawberries using a hand blender or a potato masher to your desired consistency. If you like chunks, mash them lightly; for a smoother jam, mash them more finely.
Step 4
Now for the magical moment of transformation! Combine the rock-hard kiwi jam, which was so solid it bent a fork, with the mashed strawberries in the pot. This marks the beginning of your new, delicious jam!
Step 5
Place the strawberries and kiwi jam in a pot over very low heat. Stir gently and continuously to allow the hardened kiwi jam to soften and melt smoothly.
Step 6
Once the kiwi jam has mostly melted, increase the heat to medium-low and let it come to a gentle boil for a moment. Then, reduce the heat back to low to simmer and thicken. Skim off any foam that rises to the surface; this ensures a clear and refined jam.
Step 7
Taste the jam periodically and adjust the sweetness. If the original kiwi jam was already very sweet, you might not need to add any extra honey or sugar. The natural sweetness of the strawberries will likely be enough.
Step 8
Here’s a simple test for jam consistency: Drop a spoonful of jam into a glass of cold water. If the jam holds its shape and doesn’t spread out, it has reached the perfect jam consistency. Remove from heat at this point.
Step 9
This simmering process, alternating between medium-low and low heat, took about 20 minutes. Be careful not to overcook it, or it might harden again! The resulting jam has a beautiful sheen and a wonderfully spreadable texture.
Step 10
Carefully spoon the finished strawberry kiwi jam into sterilized jars. The once-hard kiwi jam has been reborn into a superior jam, enhanced in both flavor and texture by the addition of strawberries! This rescue recipe is a complete success. ^^
