On hot summer days, how about some refreshing cabbage wraps? This recipe combines crisp napa cabbage, fragrant perilla leaves, and a satisfying tuna filling for a healthy and delicious meal. Perfect for when your appetite is down!
Wrap Ingredients- 8 large Napa cabbage leaves (prepared for wrapping)
- 8 Perilla (Shiso) leaves (washed and dried)
- 2 bowls cooked rice (approx. 300g)
- 1 can (100g) Tuna, drained
Tuna Mayo Filling Seasoning- 1 Tbsp Miso paste
- 1 Tbsp Mayonnaise
- 1 Tbsp Minced green onion
- 1 Tbsp Minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp Cooking syrup (or corn syrup)
- 1 Tbsp Toasted sesame seeds
- 1 Tbsp Sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp Miso paste
- 1 Tbsp Mayonnaise
- 1 Tbsp Minced green onion
- 1 Tbsp Minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp Cooking syrup (or corn syrup)
- 1 Tbsp Toasted sesame seeds
- 1 Tbsp Sesame oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Wash the Napa cabbage leaves thoroughly. Flip them over and carefully slice off the thick core with a knife to make them easier to roll. This step ensures the cabbage is tender and pliable for wrapping.

Step 2
Bring a pot of water to a boil. Blanch the prepared Napa cabbage leaves until they are tender and flexible. Immediately rinse them under cold water to stop the cooking and drain any excess water.

Step 3
In a bowl, combine 1 Tbsp Miso paste, 1 Tbsp Mayonnaise, 1 Tbsp finely minced green onion, and 1 Tbsp minced garlic. Mix well to create a smooth and flavorful dressing for the filling.

Step 4
Drain the oil from the canned tuna. Add the drained tuna to the bowl with the dressing. Mash and mix everything together thoroughly with a spoon until well combined, forming the delicious tuna mayo filling.

Step 5
In a separate bowl, combine the cooked rice with 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds and 1 Tbsp sesame oil. Mix well with a spatula or spoon until evenly coated. Letting the rice cool slightly will help preserve the aroma of the perilla leaves.

Step 6
Lay one prepared Napa cabbage leaf flat. Place a perilla leaf on top of it. Add a moderate amount of the seasoned rice onto the perilla leaf. Carefully roll everything up tightly into a neat wrap.

Step 7
If your cabbage or perilla leaves are small and the filling tends to spill out, don’t worry too much about making perfect sushi rolls. You can simply fold in the sides as you roll, or just roll it like a simple wrap. The taste will be just as great!

Step 8
Once all the wraps are made, cut them in half or into thirds, depending on your preference. Arrange them attractively on a serving plate. You can serve them with soy sauce or a wasabi dipping sauce if desired.
