It’s an incredibly simple recipe that transforms ordinary dumplings into a delightful dish. Perfect as a snack for kids or even an appetizer for adults!
Ingredients- 1 frozen steamed dumpling
- 1 fresh egg
- 1/2 pinch of salt
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, place 1 frozen steamed dumpling in a microwave-safe bowl. Add about 1 tablespoon of water. Microwave for 3 minutes. This step softens the dumpling, making it much easier to mash.
Step 2
In a separate bowl, crack 1 fresh egg. Add 1/2 pinch of salt to enhance the flavor. Whisk the egg well with a chopstick or whisk until the yolk and white are thoroughly combined. This will add a subtle seasoning.
Step 3
Carefully remove the dumpling that was microwaved for 3 minutes. Use scissors to finely chop the dumpling. The key is to chop it as finely as possible, ensuring the wrapper and filling are well-minced. This helps it mix evenly with the egg and hold its shape.
Step 4
Chop the dumpling until it’s broken down into very small pieces, similar to rice grains, as shown in the picture. Ensuring there are no large chunks will result in a uniform batter when mixed with the egg, and a beautifully shaped pancake when cooked.
Step 5
Add all the finely chopped dumpling pieces to the whisked egg mixture. Stir well to ensure every piece of dumpling is coated with the egg. This combination of chewy dumpling and smooth egg creates a wonderful batter.
Step 6
Heat a frying pan over medium-low heat and add a generous amount of cooking oil. Once the pan is preheated, spoon portions of the dumpling-egg mixture onto the pan, forming small, round pancakes. Leave some space between each pancake.
Step 7
Once the bottom side of the pancakes turns golden brown, carefully flip them over. Continue cooking and flipping until both sides are golden brown and the inside is fully cooked. Be mindful of the heat to prevent burning, and aim for a lovely golden hue.
Step 8
Voila! Your delicious Mandu Jeon (dumpling pancakes) are ready, made with just one frozen dumpling and one egg! Enjoy them while they’re warm for the best texture – crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It’s a fantastic way to use up leftover dumplings!
