Main Ingredients
  • 2 Pollack Roe (approx. 80g)
  • 9 Lettuce Leaves
  • 1 Bowl of Rice

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the vegetables that will add flavor to the pollack roe stew. Finely mince the Korean chili pepper after removing the seeds. Chop the white part of the green onion. These minced vegetables will enhance the aroma and taste when cooked with the pollack roe.

Step 2

Next, prepare the pollack roe. Cut the fresh pollack roe into bite-sized pieces directly through the membrane with scissors. (Tip: If you’re not using low-sodium pollack roe, it might be a bit salty, but it becomes perfectly balanced when eaten with rice and vegetables, making it quite delicious. If saltiness is a concern, you can briefly rinse it under water before using.)

Step 3

Place the prepared pollack roe in a microwave-safe container. Add the minced green onion and minced Korean chili pepper. Then, add the seasoning ingredients: 1 Tbsp Gochugaru, 0.5 Tbsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp sesame seeds, and 4 Tbsp sesame oil. Gently mix everything without mashing the pollack roe, ensuring the seasoning is evenly distributed.

Step 4

Close the lid of the container. (Important Tip: Pollack roe can pop during microwaving, so it’s essential to use a container with a lid. If you don’t have one, cover it tightly with plastic wrap and poke a few holes with a fork to allow steam to escape. Ensuring safety during cooking is paramount!)

Step 5

Now, microwave on a 1000W setting for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, check if the pollack roe is cooked through. If it’s not, add an additional 30 seconds to 1 minute of cooking time. (Caution: Overcooking can dry out or burn the pollack roe, so it’s best to check periodically and adjust the cooking time as needed.)

Step 6

While the pollack roe stew is cooking, prepare the rice. Take a bowl of warm rice, lightly moisten your hands with water or oil, and form the rice into neat, round shapes. You can also simply unmold the rice from the bowl.

Step 7

Wash the lettuce leaves thoroughly and pat them dry. Place the lettuce leaves one by one attractively on top of the formed rice, then place the rice on top to create wraps. Arrange these wraps nicely on a plate.

Step 8

Finally, place the warm microwave-cooked pollack roe stew on top of the prepared rice wraps. Sprinkle with a few sesame seeds to finish. Your super simple and delicious pollack roe stew meal is complete! Enjoy your meal!
