Main Ingredients- 1 package peeled quail eggs (store-bought)
- 1 package Korean chili peppers (gkwari-g pepper)
- 2 Cheongyang peppers (optional, for a spicier taste)
Braising Sauce- 1 cup soy sauce (200ml)
- 2 cups water (400ml)
- 1 Tbsp plum extract (sweetness adjustable)
- 2-3 bay leaves (optional, for enhanced aroma)
- 1 cup soy sauce (200ml)
- 2 cups water (400ml)
- 1 Tbsp plum extract (sweetness adjustable)
- 2-3 bay leaves (optional, for enhanced aroma)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the quail eggs. Using store-bought peeled quail eggs significantly reduces cooking time. Rinse them under cold water before use.
Step 2
Trim the stems off the Korean chili peppers and wash them thoroughly, then pat them dry. If you like spicy food, finely chop 1-2 Cheongyang peppers.
Step 3
Pour 1 cup of soy sauce and 2 cups of water into a pot. If you want to add more aroma, include 2-3 bay leaves.
Step 4
Add 1 tablespoon of plum extract instead of sugar; it provides a subtle sweetness and a glossy finish. You can substitute with sugar and adjust the amount to your preference. Stir to combine the sauce ingredients and bring to a boil over high heat.
Step 5
Once the sauce is boiling, add the prepared peeled quail eggs and simmer over medium heat for about 3 minutes. Then, add the washed Korean chili peppers and simmer for another 2 minutes. Be careful not to overcook, or the quail eggs might become tough. Stick to the cooking times.
Step 6
When adding the Korean chili peppers, mixing in the chopped Cheongyang peppers will add a pleasant spicy kick, making it even more delicious. You can omit them if you don’t like spicy food.
Step 7
Transfer the finished quail egg jangjorim to an airtight container and let it cool completely. Once cooled, refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld.
Step 8
It’s delicious right away, but it’s even better after chilling in the refrigerator for a while, allowing the flavors to deepen. It’s perfect as a side dish for meals or in a bento box!
