How to Make Deliciously Easy Egg Rice
A trip down memory lane to a simple egg rice dish, just like mom used to make! This incredibly easy recipe is ready in about 5 minutes with just rice and an egg. Main Ingredients- 1 large egg
- 2/3 bowl of warm cooked rice
Seasoning & Condiments- 1 Tbsp cooking oil
- 1.5 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1/2 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
- 1/4 tsp sugar (can substitute with corn syrup or honey)

Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Gently heat a frying pan over low heat and add 1 Tbsp of cooking oil. Once the pan is warm, crack 1 egg into it. Wait about 10 seconds until the egg white starts to set slightly. It’s best to leave the yolk intact at this stage.
Step 2
Place 2/3 of a bowl of warm cooked rice directly on top of the uncooked egg. Using warm rice rather than cold rice helps it mix better with the egg and prevents clumping, resulting in a more delicious egg rice.
Step 3
Sprinkle 1.5 Tbsp of soy sauce and 1/4 tsp of sugar evenly over the rice. You can adjust the sweetness to your preference; using corn syrup or honey can add a nice sheen and smoothness. Make sure to distribute the soy sauce and sugar evenly so they are absorbed by the rice.
Step 4
Now, stir and ‘fry’ the mixture gently with a spatula or chopsticks until the egg is fully cooked and all ingredients are well combined. The egg yolk will mix with the rice grains, adding a wonderful savory flavor. Keep the heat on medium-low to prevent burning.
Step 5
Once the rice is fluffy and the egg is cooked through, just before turning off the heat, drizzle in 1 Tbsp of sesame oil. Stir lightly to coat the rice with the fragrant sesame oil. Avoid overcooking at this stage, as the aroma can dissipate.
Step 6
Transfer the finished savory egg rice to a nice bowl. Sprinkle 1/2 Tbsp of toasted sesame seeds over the top for a beautiful presentation and an extra burst of nutty flavor. You’ll find yourself finishing this bowl in no time!
