Spinach Porridge Ingredients- 1 bowl of cooked rice
- 800ml water
- 100g spinach
- 100g minced pork
- 1 Tbsp doenjang (soybean paste)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1/2 green onion stalk
- 1 Korean green chili pepper
- 1 Tbsp cooking wine (for pork marinade)
- 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil (for pork marinade)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
[Making Spinach Porridge] First, finely chop the green onion and Korean green chili peppers for the spinach porridge. Use both the white and green parts of the green onion to add a fragrant aroma.
Step 2
In a blender, combine 1 bowl of cooked rice and 800ml of water. Blend until smooth. Ensure the rice is blended thoroughly for a creamy porridge texture.
Step 3
Prepare the minced pork for added flavor. Marinate 100g of minced pork with 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil and 1 Tbsp cooking wine. Set aside. Then, heat a little cooking oil in a pan and sauté the marinated pork until golden brown.
Step 4
Pour the blended rice and water mixture into a pot and bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low. Add 1 Tbsp minced garlic, the chopped green onion, Korean green chili pepper, and 100g of thoroughly washed spinach. Cook just until the spinach wilts to retain its nutrients and vibrant color.
Step 5
Once the porridge reaches a slightly thick consistency, turn off the heat. Ladle the spinach porridge into serving bowls. Sprinkle with sesame seeds for a final nutty touch. Your delicious spinach porridge is ready!

[Making Stir-Fried Spinach] Now, let’s make the stir-fried spinach! Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan. Add 1 Tbsp minced garlic and sauté over medium-low heat until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic. This creates a flavorful garlic oil.

Once the garlic is aromatic, add 100g of minced pork (unmarinated) and cook until browned. Stir in 1 Tbsp soy sauce and 1 Tbsp sugar, cooking until the sauce coats the pork. Finely chop 2 Korean green chili peppers.

Add 100g of spinach and the chopped green chili peppers to the pan, along with 2 Tbsp oyster sauce. Stir-fry quickly, just enough to wilt the spinach while keeping its crispness.
