Nostalgic Lunchbox Side Dish: Braised Pink Sausage in Soy Sauce (Sumi’s Side Dish Style)
Bringing you a nostalgic side dish that was a favorite in old-school lunchboxes – braised pink sausage! While it’s delicious coated in egg and pan-fried, this recipe offers a delightful twist: braising it in a sweet and savory soy sauce glaze. This is a simple yet incredibly tasty way to enjoy pink sausage, loved by both kids and adults.
Ingredients- 1/2 Pink Sausage (approx. 150g)
- 1/2 stalk Green Onion
- 1 Green Chili Pepper
- 1 Red Chili Pepper
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 1 Tbsp Plum Extract (Maesil Extract)
- 1.5 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- A pinch of Toasted Sesame Seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the pink sausage. Slice it into pieces that are neither too thin nor too thick, about 0.5cm thick. This thickness allows the sauce to penetrate well and creates a pleasant texture. You can cut them like you would for skewered dishes.
Step 2
Finely chop the green onion or slice it diagonally to add flavor to the dish.
Step 3
Remove the seeds from the green and red chili peppers, then finely chop or slice them to add a hint of spice and vibrant color. Feel free to adjust the amount according to your preference.
Step 4
Heat a pan over medium-low heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Be mindful of the heat; if the pan is too hot, the sauce can burn. A gentle heat is ideal.
Step 5
Add 1 tablespoon of plum extract (Maesil Extract) to the pan. Plum extract adds sweetness, a glossy finish, and helps to neutralize any gamey odors from the sausage.
Step 6
Pour in 1.5 tablespoons of soy sauce. Stir well to combine all the ingredients, then let it simmer and thicken, allowing the flavors to deepen and meld together.
Step 7
Add the sliced pink sausage to the pan. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until the sausage is coated in the sauce and slightly browned. Once the sausage is cooked through, add the chopped chili peppers and green onions, and mix quickly to combine. Finish with a drizzle of 1 tablespoon of sesame oil and a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds for a delicious braised pink sausage.
Step 8
Here is your beautifully braised pink sausage, infused with a delicious soy sauce glaze. It’s a perfect accompaniment to a warm bowl of rice, making for a satisfying meal.
