Tangsuyuk Sauce Ingredients

  • 250ml water (approx. 1 cup)
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 4 Tbsp vinegar
  • 6 Tbsp sugar
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 Tbsp lemon juice (optional)
  • 1/3 carrot (thinly julienned)
  • 1 king oyster mushroom (sliced into bite-sized pieces)
  • 1/2 apple (peeled, cored, and diced into bite-sized pieces)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare a large bowl. Add 250ml of water (about 1 cup), 2 Tbsp soy sauce, 4 Tbsp vinegar, 6 Tbsp sugar, and 2 Tbsp cornstarch to the bowl. Whisk everything together thoroughly with a whisk or spoon until the starch and sugar are completely dissolved and no lumps remain. This is the base for our delicious sauce.

Step 1

Step 2

Next, we’ll prepare the vegetables and fruit that will add wonderful flavor and texture to the sauce. Thinly julienne 1/3 of a carrot, and slice 1 king oyster mushroom into bite-sized pieces. Peel, core, and dice 1/2 an apple into pieces similar in size. Once everything is prepped, add the julienned carrot, sliced mushroom, and diced apple to the sauce base in the bowl. Your preparations are complete! Now, all that’s left is to cook the sauce to perfection.

Step 2

Step 3

Time to cook! Pour the prepared sauce mixture into a saucepan or pot. Bring it to a rolling boil over medium-high heat. Once it starts to bubble vigorously, reduce the heat to low. Continue to simmer gently, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, for about 5 minutes, or until the sauce thickens to a glossy, syrupy consistency. Your homemade Tangsuyuk sauce is ready!

Step 3

Step 4

Here’s a final tip for an extra touch of freshness! If you like a brighter, more citrusy flavor, stir in 2 Tbsp of lemon juice at the end. You can omit this step if you don’t have lemon juice. Taste the finished sauce and adjust the sweetness or tanginess by adding a little more sugar or vinegar, according to your preference. If the sauce seems too thin and you want to add more cornstarch, be careful not to add it directly, as it will clump! Instead, dissolve the extra cornstarch in a small amount of cold water first, then gradually whisk it into the simmering sauce until you achieve the desired thickness. Enjoy your delicious, homemade Tangsuyuk sauce with your crispy fried pork!
