Main Ingredients

  • 1 can Corn Kernels (approx. 300g)
  • 1/2 cup Tempura Flour (approx. 50g)

Seasoning & Additional Ingredients

  • 2-3 Tbsp Sweetened Condensed Milk (adjust to taste)
  • 1/3 cup Water (approx. 60ml)
  • Cooking Oil (generous amount)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, drain the water thoroughly from 1 can of corn kernels using a sieve. The can size might vary slightly, but aim for a standard can, roughly around 300g. Draining well is crucial for crispy fritters.

Step 1

Step 2

Place the drained corn kernels into a bowl. Add 1/2 cup of tempura flour and mix until the corn kernels are coated. This coating will help bind them together.

Step 2

Step 3

Next, pour in 1/3 cup of water and mix well until the batter evenly coats the corn kernels. The consistency should be thick enough for the corn to stick together, not too runny. If you prefer a sweeter taste, add 2-3 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk and mix. You can adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of condensed milk.

Step 3

Step 4

Heat a frying pan over medium-low heat. Add a generous amount of cooking oil. Plenty of oil will help the fritters cook evenly without burning and achieve a lovely crispiness.

Step 4

Step 5

Pour the corn batter thinly onto the heated pan, shaping it into a round fritter. Making them thin is important; if they are too thick, they won’t cook through properly and might become soggy.

Step 5

Step 6

Once the underside is golden brown and cooked, carefully flip the fritter with a spatula. The key is to flip it cleanly in one go to maintain its shape. Cook the other side until it’s also golden brown and crispy.

Step 6

Step 7

Once both sides are beautifully golden and cooked through, your sweet corn fritters are ready! Cut them into desired portions and serve on a nice plate. They are delicious on their own or can be served with soy sauce dipping sauce or ketchup, according to your preference.
