An Effortless Weekend Snack for Kids: The Golden Recipe for Butter-Roasted Corn
A perfect rainy day treat for you and your little ones! Introducing our ‘Butter-Roasted Corn’ recipe, made in a flash using pre-cooked and frozen corn. The irresistible combination of sweet, caramelized sugar and rich, savory butter will have everyone reaching for more. With a crispy exterior and a chewy interior, kids will exclaim, ‘Mom, the corn has dalgona on it!’ (referring to honeycomb candy). It’s an ideal, fuss-free dessert or snack that feels special. Let’s get started!
Main Ingredients- 3 ears of cooked corn (If using pre-cooked and frozen corn, thaw before use)
- 1 to 1.5 Tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 Tbsp granulated sugar
- Pinch of dried parsley (for garnish)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Prepare your corn. I’m using 3 ears of corn that were pre-cooked and frozen. If using frozen corn, rinse it under cold water or steam it lightly to thaw; it will return to its original tender state. If you have fresh corn, simply wash it thoroughly.
Step 2
Cut the prepared corn into halves for easier handling and eating. This makes them convenient to cook in the pan and fun for little hands to hold later.
Step 3
Heat a pan over medium-low heat and melt 1 to 1.5 tablespoons of unsalted butter. It’s important to maintain a medium-low heat to prevent the butter from burning.
Step 4
Once the butter is melted, add the cut corn to the pan. Roll the corn around to coat it evenly with butter, and roast until golden brown. Keep the heat at a moderate level.
Step 5
Gently shake the pan or roll the corn to ensure the butter is absorbed evenly and the corn roasts to a nice golden color on all sides. This ensures a more delicious result.
Step 6
Continue roasting the corn until it develops an appetizing brown hue. It’s ideal to roast until the corn kernels feel slightly chewy.
Step 7
Once the corn is nicely browned, add 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar and quickly mix it with the corn. Stir rapidly to coat the corn kernels evenly with the sugar.
Step 8
The sugar will melt from the heat and form a thin coating on the corn. The key is to stir quickly and swiftly to prevent the sugar from clumping or burning, similar to making honeycomb candy (dalgona).
Step 9
When the sugar coating has formed a thin, crispy layer on the corn, you’ll have a delicious butter-roasted corn with a fantastic balance of sweetness and savory richness. Continue to cook for another moment until the sugar is fully melted and well combined with the corn.
Step 10
Isn’t this incredibly simple? This quickly made butter-roasted corn is a perfect snack for kids. For added fun, insert wooden skewers into the corn so they can hold and eat them easily!
Step 11
Finally, sprinkle a pinch of dried parsley over the finished corn for a touch of color and fragrance. It makes the butter-roasted corn look even more appealing.
Step 12
Your children will be delighted, exclaiming, ‘Mom! The corn has dalgona on it! It’s so delicious!’ The joy of seeing their happy reactions is truly rewarding.
