Ingredients- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 3 Tbsp Honey
- 1 Tbsp Cooking Wine (Mirin or Cheongju)
- 2 cups Garlic Cloves (peeled)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
We’re using fresh, seasonal garlic for this recipe. Using new garlic enhances its natural, wonderful flavor. Start by peeling the garlic cloves completely.
Step 2
Fill a pot with plenty of water and bring it to a rolling boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and add the peeled garlic cloves. Let them simmer for about 5 minutes. This simmering step is crucial for removing the pungent, spicy notes and the strong aroma characteristic of raw garlic. After 5 minutes, the garlic should be tender and mild.
Step 3
Drain the boiled garlic thoroughly. It’s important to remove as much excess water as possible so the glaze doesn’t become diluted. You can gently press the garlic with paper towels to absorb any remaining moisture.
Step 4
In a pan, combine the soy sauce, honey, and cooking wine. Heat this mixture over low heat, stirring until well combined. Be careful not to use high heat, as this can cause the glaze to evaporate too quickly or burn.
Step 5
Once the glaze begins to bubble gently, add the drained garlic cloves to the pan. Continue to cook over medium-low heat, stirring frequently to prevent sticking and burning. This allows the garlic to absorb the sweet glaze evenly and develop a beautiful sheen.
Step 6
The glaze is ready when it has thickened slightly and coats the garlic beautifully, giving it a glossy appearance. Avoid overcooking, which can make the garlic mushy or burnt.
Step 7
This honey-glazed garlic is now perfectly mild and sweet, making it an excellent side dish that even children can enjoy! For an extra crunch and flavor, you can stir in some toasted almonds or peanuts at the very end. Serve warm over rice for a delicious meal!
