Base Ingredients
  • 2 medium sweet potatoes (approx. 300g)
  • 1 large pumpkin (approx. 500g)
  • 30g cream cheese (approx. 2 Tbsp)

Chocolate Coating (Optional)
  • 100g dark chocolate
  • 100g milk chocolate
  • 100g white chocolate

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, thoroughly wash the 2 sweet potatoes and steam them for about 15 to 20 minutes until very tender. You can check for doneness by piercing with a fork. Once cooked, peel the sweet potatoes while they are still warm and mash them finely with a fork or potato masher. (If using pumpkin, remove the seeds, steam until tender, and then mash.)

Step 2

To the mashed sweet potato (or pumpkin), add 30g of cream cheese and 1 tablespoon of sugar (adjust sugar to your preference). Knead the mixture well until all ingredients are evenly combined and form a smooth dough. Add more sugar if you prefer a sweeter taste.

Step 3

Shape the sweet potato (or pumpkin) dough into balls, approximately the size of a ping-pong ball (about 3-4 cm in diameter). Lightly dampen your hands with water when shaping to prevent the dough from sticking.

Step 4

Prepare a double boiler: place a heatproof bowl with chopped chocolate over a saucepan of simmering water, ensuring the bottom of the bowl doesn’t touch the water. Melt the dark, milk, and white chocolates separately. Once melted, use a skewer or fork to dip each sweet potato ball into the melted chocolate, coating the surface evenly. Work quickly before the chocolate sets.

Step 5

While the chocolate coating is still slightly soft, roll the coated balls in your chosen toppings. You can use slivered almonds, crushed peanuts, crunchy cookie crumbs, sweet shredded coconut, nutty pumpkin seeds, savory roasted soybean powder, fragrant green tea powder, or rich cocoa powder – mix and match for a variety of flavors and textures! Place the finished balls on parchment paper-lined plates or trays. Chill in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes until the chocolate coating has set firmly.
