How to Make Delicious Pear Kimchi That Stimulates Your Appetite
This pear kimchi is incredibly easy to make without requiring many ingredients. The combination of sweet pear flesh and a satisfying crunch is perfect as a side dish or even as a kimchi substitute. It’s ready to enjoy right after mixing, making it exceptionally convenient.
Main Ingredients- 2 Pears
- 2 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili powder)
- 2 Tbsp Fish Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Maesilcheong (Plum Extract)
- 0.5 Tbsp Brown Sugar (adjust or omit based on pear sweetness)
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1 tsp Minced Ginger
- A small amount of Scallion (finely chopped)
- A pinch of Sesame Seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the two pears thoroughly and peel them. Then, cut the pears into bite-sized cubes. Cutting them into slightly larger pieces will give you a better texture when you bite into them.
Step 2
Put on disposable gloves and add 2 tablespoons of gochugaru to the cubed pears. At this stage, don’t mix the seasonings yet; rather, gently coat the pears with the chili powder as if giving them a color bath. This helps prevent the pears from releasing too much moisture and ensures a vibrant color.
Step 3
After coating the pears with gochugaru, add 2 tablespoons of fish sauce and 1 tablespoon of maesilcheong for a sweet and savory flavor.
Step 4
Add 0.5 tablespoon of brown sugar to enhance the sweetness slightly. If your pears are already very sweet and flavorful, you can omit the sugar or reduce the amount. The goal is to highlight the natural sweetness of the pear.
Step 5
Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic for a pungent flavor and 1 teaspoon of minced ginger for a slight kick. Finally, add a small amount of finely chopped scallions for a fresh aroma.
Step 6
Now, mix all the ingredients together gently. Be careful not to mash the pear pieces, and ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed throughout. Taste it, and if it needs more flavor, you can add a tiny bit more fish sauce or sugar to adjust to your preference.
Step 7
Finally, sprinkle a pinch of sesame seeds over the delicious-looking pear kimchi. Your beautifully flavored and presented pear kimchi is now complete! You can enjoy it immediately, or chill it in the refrigerator for a while to serve it cold and even more delicious.
