Main Ingredients

  • Pork (for bulgogi or stir-fry) 400g
  • Green onions 2 stalks
  • Warm rice 4 bowls

Pork Bulgogi Marinade

  • Minced garlic 1.5 Tbsp
  • Soy sauce 4 Tbsp
  • Sugar 2 Tbsp
  • Black pepper, a pinch
  • Sesame oil, a pinch

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, place the pork on a paper towel and gently press to remove any excess blood. Transfer the patted-dry pork to a bowl. Add 1.5 Tbsp minced garlic, 4 Tbsp soy sauce, 2 Tbsp sugar, a pinch of black pepper, and a pinch of sesame oil. Mix well to coat the pork thoroughly with the marinade. Let it marinate for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Step 1

Step 2

While the pork is marinating, thinly slice the green onions. Rinse the sliced green onions under running water and then soak them in cold water for about 5 minutes to mellow out their strong flavor. After soaking, drain them thoroughly in a colander. This step helps to keep the green onions crisp and refreshing.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a lightly oiled pan over high heat. Add the marinated pork and stir-fry quickly. It’s important to cook over high heat without letting too much liquid release from the meat to ensure it stays juicy and tender. Stir-fry until the pork is cooked through.

Step 3

Step 4

For an extra layer of smoky flavor, you can use a kitchen torch to lightly char the surface of the pork once it’s almost cooked through. This adds a realistic ‘wok hei’ or grilled flavor that elevates the dish. (This step is optional.)

Step 4

Step 5

Serve the warm rice into individual bowls. Generously top the rice with the stir-fried pork bulgogi. Add the prepared, crisp green onions on top. Finally, drizzle with okonomiyaki sauce and mayonnaise to your liking. Your delicious Pork Bulgogi Deopbap, loved by both kids and adults, is now ready to be enjoyed!
