Ingredients

  • 2 slices of Moukuchon Prime square bread (for the outer layers)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 slices of regular bread (for the inner filling)
  • 1 slice of processed cheese
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 Tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 2 Tbsp sweetened condensed milk

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s prepare the sweet sauce for the outer layers of the sandwich. In a small bowl, combine 2 Tbsp of butter and 2 Tbsp of sweetened condensed milk. Mix them well until smooth. This will give the bread a nice sheen and enhance its flavor when spread.

Step 1

Step 2

Next, prepare the egg mixture. Crack 2 large eggs into a bowl, add a pinch of salt, and whisk them thoroughly. Pour this egg mixture into a lightly greased pan over low heat and cook to make a thin omelet (a ‘jidan’). You’ll need two omelets, roughly the size of your bread slices.

Step 2

Step 3

Take the 2 slices of Moukuchon Prime square bread, which will be used for the outer sandwich layers. Lightly butter a frying pan and toast these bread slices on both sides until they are lightly golden brown. This step adds a delightful crispness and rich aroma.

Step 3

Step 4

Now, let’s assemble the inner filling. Lay out the 4 slices of regular bread flat. On two of these slices, spread 1 Tbsp of mayonnaise thinly on only one side. Carefully place one of the thin omelets you made onto the mayonnaise-covered side of each slice.

Step 4

Step 5

Take the remaining two slices of regular bread. Spread the prepared butter-condensed milk sauce evenly and thinly on both sides of each slice. On top of one of these butter-sauced slices, place one of the toasted Moukuchon Prime square bread slices, followed by the slice of processed cheese. Then, cover this with another butter-and-sauce-coated slice of regular bread, creating a layered sandwich base.

Step 5

Step 6

It’s time to combine all the components. Carefully place the sandwich base (with the square bread and cheese) onto one of the bread slices that already has an omelet on it. Essentially, you’ll have a stack of four bread slices, two omelets, and one cheese slice. Ensure all the layers are aligned neatly.

Step 6

Step 7

Once the sandwich is assembled, use a sharp knife to trim off the crusts from all sides. This will give your sandwich a clean and professional appearance, making it easier to handle and eat.

Step 7

Step 8

Finally, cut the trimmed sandwich diagonally into two triangles. Your delicious Taiwanese-style French Toast Sandwich is now complete! Enjoy its wonderfully sweet and soft flavors.
