Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare your star ingredient: a 300g salmon fillet, and one onion to accompany the steak.
Step 2
Gently rinse the salmon fillet under cool running water. Then, pat it thoroughly dry with paper towels. This step is crucial for achieving a clean flavor without any fishiness.
Step 3
Season the salmon fillet with 1 teaspoon of coarse salt and a pinch of freshly ground black pepper. Next, generously brush all sides of the salmon with 3 tablespoons of olive oil. Gently massage the oil into the fish with your hands to ensure even seasoning. Let the salmon rest for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Step 4
Slice the onion into two parts: one for accompanying the steak and one for the sauce. For the steak accompaniment, slice about half of the onion into relatively thick strips (about 0.5 cm thick). For the sauce, finely mince about 1/4 of the onion, keeping it slightly chunky for texture.
Step 5
Soak the minced onion for the sauce in cold water for about 10 minutes. This will mellow out its sharp, pungent flavor, making the sauce much smoother.
Step 6
Line your air fryer basket with parchment paper for easy cleanup. Place the sliced onions on the bottom of the basket, and then carefully place the seasoned salmon fillet on top.
Step 7
Now, let’s cook the salmon in the air fryer. No preheating is necessary. Set the air fryer to 180°C (350°F) and cook for a total of 25 minutes.
Step 8
Cook the salmon flesh-side up for the first 10 minutes. This allows the tender flesh to cook through and become juicy.
Step 9
After 10 minutes, flip the salmon so the skin side is up and continue cooking for another 15 minutes. If you prefer crispy skin, after the initial 10 minutes, flip it to the skin side up again and cook at 190-200°C (375-400°F) for an additional 5 minutes for extra crispiness.
Step 10
While the salmon is cooking, let’s whip up the delicious salmon steak sauce! In a small bowl, combine 1 tablespoon of whole grain mustard, 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice, and 0.5 tablespoon of oligosaccharide (or honey). Drain the soaked minced onion well and add it to the bowl. Whisk everything together until smooth and well combined. For an extra touch of freshness, you can stir in a pinch of chopped parsley. Your flavorful salmon steak sauce is ready!
