Main Ingredients

  • 700g Pork Shoulder (suitable cut for bossam/boiled pork)
  • 700ml Cola (regular carbonated beverage)
  • 200ml Soy Sauce
  • 10-15 whole Peppercorns
  • 1-2 Onions (cut into large chunks)
  • 5-10 whole Garlic Cloves (peeled or unpeeled)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare a pot or deep pan for boiling the pork. Place the 700g of pork shoulder into the pot. Add enough cola to cover the meat. A good ratio to remember is about 100ml of cola per 100g of pork. For 700g, use 700ml of cola generously.

Step 1

Step 2

Next, add the soy sauce. Use a ratio of 3 parts cola to 1 part soy sauce. For 700ml of cola, add 200ml of soy sauce. This ratio ensures the pork belly has a savory depth and is seasoned perfectly.

Step 2

Step 3

Prepare the aromatics to eliminate any porky smell and add fragrance. Add the large chunks of 1-2 onions, 10-15 whole peppercorns, and 5-10 whole garlic cloves to the pot. Onions and garlic are excellent at removing the gamey odor from pork.

Step 3

Step 4

Now for the cooking process. Start by boiling vigorously over high heat for the first 10 minutes to ensure even cooking. Once it comes to a boil, reduce the heat to medium and simmer for another 30 minutes. The total cooking time of about 40 minutes will result in tender pork. After turning off the heat, let the pork rest, covered, for about 20 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute within the meat, making it extra moist and flavorful.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the pork is cooked, remove it and slice it into your desired thickness. Since it will be steaming hot, it’s easiest and safest to use tongs to firmly hold one end of the pork belly while you slice with a knife. Enjoy your deliciously tender cola pork belly while it’s warm!
