Tender Beef and Cucumber Puree

Stage 2 Early Baby Food: Making Beef and Cucumber Puree

Tender Beef and Cucumber Puree

This is a Stage 2 early baby food recipe combining beef and cucumber. It’s recommended when you’ve finished the initial rice or vegetable purees and want to introduce something a bit more nutritious. Some babies might find the unique flavor of cucumber unfamiliar at first, so start with 30ml on the first and second days, gradually increasing to 50ml on the last day. If your baby shows resistance, don’t force it; consider moving to the next stage or trying a different ingredient.

Ingredients

  • 15g Rice flour
  • 22g Fresh cucumber
  • 25g Lean beef (ground)
  • 240g Water

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, soak the beef in cold water to remove any blood. For the cucumber, peel it thinly, then carefully scoop out the seeds, using only the soft flesh for measurement. (Tip: Cucumber seeds can be watery and have a rough texture, so it’s best to omit them for baby food.)

Step 1

Step 2

Prepare 15g of rice flour and 240g of water. It’s crucial to whisk the rice flour thoroughly into the water from the start to prevent clumps.

Step 2

Step 3

Since this is an ingredient that can be polarizing, we’ll blend it finely in a mixer for a smooth texture. Place the prepared cucumber and the blood-removed beef into a blender. Add 100g of water and blend until smooth. Then, transfer this beef-cucumber puree to a pot, add the remaining 140g of water, and mix well. (Tip: While you can boil the beef separately to make a broth, blending it together like this helps mellow the cucumber flavor while utilizing the beef’s juices.)

Step 3

Step 4

Cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly to prevent the rice flour from clumping. Be careful not to let it stick to the bottom of the pot. Continue stirring gently until it reaches a smooth, creamy consistency, similar to cream cheese. (Tip: The key is to stir by scraping the bottom of the pot to prevent burning.)
