Main Ingredients

  • 200g Fish Cakes (Eomuk) (cut into bite-sized pieces)
  • 1/2 Carrot (thinly julienned or sliced into half-moons)
  • 1/2 Onion (thinly julienned)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare all your ingredients. Cut the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces, and julienne or slice the carrots and onions as desired. Place the cut fish cakes, carrots, and onions into a pot. Pour in enough vegetable broth or water to cover the ingredients. Add all the seasoning ingredients: gochugaru, minced garlic, soy sauce, Dagege Baek Gan Jjang (or regular soy sauce), mirin, and ginger syrup.

Place the pot on the stove over medium-low heat. Stir everything together with a spatula to ensure the ingredients and seasonings are well combined. Once mixed, cover the pot with a lid and let it simmer gently over medium-low heat for about 10-15 minutes. It’s a good idea to open the lid and stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Continue cooking until the carrots are tender and the sauce has thickened to a glaze.

When the fish cake mixture is almost fully reduced and saucy, turn off the heat. Just before turning off the heat, drizzle in a generous amount of sesame oil for a nutty aroma and rich flavor. Let it sit for a moment to allow the sesame oil to infuse into the dish.
