Essential Ingredients- 1/2 block Tofu (approx. 150g)
- 1 handful Ripe Kimchi (approx. 150g)
- 1/2 can Canned Tuna (drained, approx. 70g)
- 1/2 Onion (medium size)
- 1/2 stalk Green Onion (approx. 50g)
- 1 Tbsp Butter
- 2/3 Tbsp Shrimp Powder (or a dash of salted shrimp paste/fish sauce if unavailable)
- A little Sesame Oil
- A little Toasted Sesame Seeds
- 2/3 paper cup Water (approx. 130ml)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare your ingredients. Slice the tofu into approximately 0.5cm thick pieces. Thinly slice the onion into strips, and cut the green onion diagonally into bite-sized pieces.
Step 2
Melt the butter in a heated pan over medium heat. Once melted, add the sliced onions and the prepared kimchi. Sauté them together until the onions become translucent. This step helps mellow the kimchi’s tang and deepen its flavor.
Step 3
When the kimchi is well sautéed, add the drained canned tuna. Stir in the shrimp powder for an extra layer of umami, a little sesame oil for aroma, and toasted sesame seeds. Continue to stir-fry until everything is well combined.
Step 4
Push the sautéed kimchi and tuna mixture to one side of the pan. Arrange the sliced tofu pieces neatly in the cleared space. Pour the 2/3 paper cup of water over the tofu. Pouring the water directly onto the tofu helps it cook evenly.
Step 5
Reduce the heat to medium-low. Let the stew simmer gently until the liquid reduces and thickens slightly, and the ingredients become tender. Keep an eye on it to prevent it from drying out too much. Finally, scatter the diagonally sliced green onions over the top and simmer for another moment to finish. Your delicious To-Do Kimchi Stew is ready!
