Tofu Patties with Glutinous Rice Flour: Perfect for a Satisfying Meal!
Have a lot of walnuts at home that nobody seems to eat? Let’s turn them into a delicious dish! Today, we’re making ‘Rice Flour Tofu Patties’ using walnuts, rice flour, and tofu, which can also serve as a complete meal! These patties offer a delightful chewy texture from the rice flour and a satisfying crunch from the walnuts, making them a hit for both kids and adults.
Main Ingredients- Tofu 420g (firm tofu for pan-frying recommended)
- Walnuts 20g (finely chopped or crushed)
- A small bunch of Garlic Chives (finely chopped)
- Carrot 1/4 medium (finely minced)
- Rice Flour 160g (helps create a chewy texture)
- Eggs 2 large
- Cooking Oil (for pan-frying, as needed)
Seasoning- Salt 1/2 Tbsp
- Perilla Oil 1 Tbsp
- Salt 1/2 Tbsp
- Perilla Oil 1 Tbsp
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Place the tofu on a clean kitchen towel or cheesecloth and gently press to squeeze out as much water as possible. Removing excess moisture is key to achieving the right patty consistency.
Step 2
Finely chop the walnuts with a knife or crush them inside a zip-top bag using a rolling pin. Wash and finely mince the garlic chives and carrot.
Step 3
In a bowl, crumble the drained tofu and mix in 160g of rice flour. Ensure there are no lumps and the flour is well incorporated. The rice flour will absorb any remaining moisture from the tofu.
Step 4
Add the finely minced carrot (about 1/4 of a medium carrot) to the tofu and rice flour mixture. Stir well to distribute evenly. The carrot adds a subtle sweetness and lovely color.
Step 5
Gently mix in the finely chopped garlic chives. Their fragrant aroma will enhance the overall flavor of the patties.
Step 6
Stir in the crushed walnuts (20g). These will provide a delightful crunch and nutty flavor with every bite.
Step 7
Add 1/2 Tbsp of salt to season the mixture. Mix everything thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.
Step 8
Shape the mixture into small, flattened round patties. Bite-sized pieces are great for kids and easy to handle.
Step 9
In a separate bowl, crack 2 large eggs. Add 1 Tbsp of perilla oil (this adds a wonderful nutty aroma, superior to regular cooking oil). Whisk the eggs thoroughly until smooth.
Step 10
Dip each shaped tofu patty into the whisked egg mixture, ensuring both sides are evenly coated. The egg coating helps the patties hold their shape and gives them a nice golden color when fried.
Step 11
Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a generous amount of cooking oil. Carefully place the egg-coated patties into the hot oil, avoiding overcrowding the pan.
Step 12
Pan-fry the patties, flipping them occasionally, until they are golden brown and cooked through on both sides. Adjust the heat as needed to prevent burning while ensuring they cook thoroughly. You’ll achieve a crispy exterior and a chewy interior.
Step 13
Once cooked, you can garnish the patties with a few extra chopped garlic chives or other fresh herbs for a decorative touch. Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
Step 14
Enjoy these delightful Rice Flour Tofu Patties with their wonderfully chewy texture and the satisfying crunch of walnuts! They are packed with nutrients and make a fantastic meal for the whole family. Wishing you a healthy and happy meal today!
