Ingredients

  • 1 packet of instant ramen (a popular brand recommended)
  • 250ml milk (for a creamy base)
  • 5 shrimp (peeled and deveined if using frozen)
  • 1/2 onion (for sweetness)
  • 1 cup broccoli florets (adds color and nutrients)
  • 2 shiitake mushrooms (for umami depth)
  • 2 pinches of salt (adjust to taste)
  • 2 pinches of black pepper (enhances flavor)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Begin by cutting the broccoli into bite-sized florets. Wash them thoroughly under running water for cleanliness.

Step 1

Step 2

Thinly slice the half onion. Slice the two shiitake mushrooms similarly. These will form the aromatic base of your dish.

Step 2

Step 3

Rinse the frozen shrimp under cold water to thaw and clean them. If they are not already, peel and devein them for easier eating.

Step 3

Step 4

Now, let’s get the ramen noodles started. Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the ramen noodles for about 1 minute less than the package instructions. They will finish cooking in the sauce.

Step 4

Step 5

Heat a little cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they begin to turn translucent. Then, add the sliced shiitake mushrooms and broccoli florets. Season with salt and pepper and stir-fry until the vegetables are tender-crisp.

Step 5

Step 6

Push the sautéed vegetables to one side of the pan. Add the shrimp to the empty space and cook until they turn pink and opaque. Once the shrimp are cooked, mix them with the vegetables and stir-fry everything together briefly.

Step 6

Step 7

It’s time to create the creamy sauce! Pour the 250ml of milk into the pan. Add half of the ramen soup packet and stir well to dissolve. (You can adjust the amount of soup packet to your preference.) Bring the milk to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat slightly.

Step 7

Step 8

Add the par-cooked ramen noodles to the simmering sauce. Toss in one slice of cheddar cheese. Stir continuously with chopsticks or tongs until the cheese melts and the sauce evenly coats the noodles. Continue cooking until the ramen is fully tender and the sauce has thickened slightly. Your delicious Toowoomba Ramyeon is ready!
