Dip tender tteokgalbi into this thick and savory Cheongyang cream sauce! This special dish offers a burst of rich flavor that fills your mouth.
Ingredients- 1/4 Onion, thinly sliced
- 2 Cheongyang peppers, finely chopped
- 80g Oyster mushrooms, trim ends and tear into bite-sized pieces
- 200g Tteokgalbi (Korean grilled short rib patties), cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 Tbsp Unsalted butter
- 50ml Milk
- 100ml Heavy cream
- 0.5 tsp Salt (or to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, cut the tteokgalbi into bite-sized pieces. Cubes of about 2-3cm or elongated pieces are good for enjoying with the sauce.
Step 2
Thinly slice the onion and finely chop the Cheongyang peppers. You can adjust the amount of Cheongyang peppers, including removing the seeds, to control the spiciness according to your preference.
Step 3
Trim the tough ends off the oyster mushrooms and then tear them into bite-sized pieces by hand. This helps the sauce to permeate better and improves the texture.
Step 4
Now, it’s time to make the sauce. Melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a pan over medium heat. Once the butter is melted, add the sliced onions and torn oyster mushrooms, and stir-fry over high heat until they start to soften.
Step 5
When the onions become translucent and the mushrooms have slightly wilted, pour in 50ml of milk and 100ml of heavy cream. Keep the heat on high and stir continuously until the sauce begins to bubble and simmer.
Step 6
As the sauce comes to a boil, add the cut tteokgalbi and chopped Cheongyang peppers. Add 0.5 teaspoon of salt and stir to combine all the ingredients well.
Step 7
Finally, continue to cook over high heat, stirring constantly, until the sauce reaches your desired consistency. If the sauce is too thin, let it simmer a bit longer to reduce. If it’s too thick, you can add a little more milk or cream to adjust. Cook until the tteokgalbi is heated through and the sauce is thick and creamy. Serve immediately while warm!
