Main Ingredients- 150g Spam (approx. 1/2 can)
- 1 Egg
- 1/3 stalk Green Onion
- 1 bowl Warm Cooked Rice (200g)
- 1-2 Tbsp Canola Oil (or cooking oil)
Seasoning- 1 Tbsp Oyster Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Oyster Sauce
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare all the ingredients that will make your fried rice delicious. People living alone or frequently eating solo often prefer simple recipes. Gather your Spam, green onion, egg, and rice.
Step 2
Dice the Spam into cubes of about 1cm thickness. Half of a 200g can is a good portion for one person. Feel free to adjust the amount of Spam to your liking. You can dice it into cubes or any bite-sized pieces.
Step 3
Heat a pan over medium heat and add 1-2 tablespoons of canola oil. You can substitute with butter for a richer, nuttier flavor. Once the oil is warm, add the chopped green onions and sauté until fragrant. Sautéing the green onions to release their aroma will significantly enhance the flavor of your fried rice.
Step 4
After sautéing the green onions, add the diced Spam and stir-fry them together. Spam is quite salty on its own, so you won’t need to add much extra seasoning. Frying the Spam until it’s lightly browned will add a delightful texture and flavor.
Step 5
Now, add the warm cooked rice. Use a spatula to break up any clumps of rice and stir-fry it well with the Spam and green onions. It’s important to ensure the rice grains are separated and evenly distributed.
Step 6
Once the rice is somewhat broken up, push the rice to one side of the pan and crack an egg into the empty space to scramble it. As the egg begins to cook, mix it with the rice and continue to stir-fry. If your rice was clumpy, the egg will help loosen it up.
Step 7
Finally, season the fried rice with 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce. Considering the saltiness of the Spam, adjust the amount of oyster sauce to your taste. The umami from the oyster sauce will elevate the flavor of the fried rice. Stir-fry for another 1-2 minutes until all ingredients are well combined.
Step 8
Serve the finished Spam fried rice appealingly in a bowl. If you have canned corn at home, sprinkle some on top. It adds a nice color and a pleasant texture, making it even more enjoyable. Even without it, this Spam fried rice is delicious. Enjoy your meal!
