Main Ingredients

  • Mackerel (half piece) 100g
  • Broccoli (cut into florets) 3-4 pieces
  • Store-bought Arrabiata Spaghetti Sauce 4 Tbsp

Seasoning & Other Ingredients

  • Salt 1 pinch
  • Cooking Wine (Mirin or Sake) 1 Tbsp
  • Minced Garlic 1 tsp
  • Black Pepper 1 pinch
  • Cooking Oil 1 Tbsp
  • Green Onion (finely chopped) a little

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare all your ingredients. Blanch the broccoli florets in boiling water with a pinch of salt for about 1 minute, then rinse with cold water. This helps maintain its vibrant green color.

Step 1

Step 2

Finely chop the green onion. Slice it thinly to be used as a garnish or to add flavor while simmering.

Step 2

Step 3

Pat the mackerel dry with paper towels. Make 2-3 shallow cuts on both sides of the fish. This helps the seasoning penetrate better and keeps the fish from falling apart during cooking.

Step 3

Step 4

Season the mackerel with a pinch of salt, 1 Tbsp of cooking wine, and a pinch of black pepper, rubbing it gently into the cuts. Let it marinate for about 3-5 minutes to remove any fishy odor.

Step 4

Step 5

Heat 1 Tbsp of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Place the mackerel skin-side down and sear until golden brown and slightly crispy. Flip and cook the other side until evenly browned.

Step 5

Step 6

In the same pan used for searing the mackerel (no need to clean it, the residual oil adds flavor!), add the 4 Tbsp of Arrabiata sauce, the chopped green onion, and 1 tsp of minced garlic.

Step 6

Step 7

Once the sauce begins to bubble, carefully place the seared mackerel back into the pan. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to coat and infuse the fish. Spoon some sauce over the mackerel occasionally.

Step 7

Step 8

When the sauce has thickened slightly and coats the fish beautifully, turn off the heat. Serve the mackerel on a plate, arranging the blanched broccoli on the side. Dipping the broccoli into the Arrabiata sauce is highly recommended for an extra burst of flavor. Your unique and delicious meal is ready!
