Upgraded Ham Street Toast
Elevated Ham Street Toast Recipe You Can Enjoy at Home
I made a special upgraded ham street toast for the kids’ lunchboxes today! This version is a bit more luxurious than the usual street toast, with generous fillings making it incredibly delicious. We added thick ham slices between the eggs for an extra hearty bite. I considered adding cheese but decided against it due to calorie concerns. If you’re not worried about calories, feel free to add a slice of cheese for even more flavor! With this lovely weather, it’s a perfect picnic lunchbox treat!
Main Ingredients- 10 slices of bread
- 5 eggs
- 1 pack of sliced ham
- 1 onion
- Some spring onions
Seasonings & Spreads- Strawberry jam
- Grape jam
- Ketchup
- A pinch of salt (for seasoning the egg mixture)
- Butter or oil (for cooking)
- Strawberry jam
- Grape jam
- Ketchup
- A pinch of salt (for seasoning the egg mixture)
- Butter or oil (for cooking)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the filling ingredients. Peel and thinly slice the onion. Wash and finely chop the spring onions. Have all ingredients ready.
Step 2
Heat butter or oil in a pan and toast the bread slices until golden brown on both sides, being careful not to burn them. It’s best to toast them over medium-low heat to avoid breaking.
Step 3
In a bowl, whisk the 5 eggs. Season lightly with salt. Add the thinly sliced onion and chopped spring onions to the eggs and mix well to create the egg batter. The vegetables will make the egg mixture richer and tastier.
Step 4
Add a generous amount of oil to a clean pan. Pour one ladleful of the egg batter onto one side of the pan and spread it thinly. Avoid making it too thick for easier cooking.
Step 5
Place the sliced ham on top of the egg. You can lightly rinse the ham under cold water and squeeze out the excess moisture to reduce saltiness and make it taste cleaner. Once the egg starts to set slightly, lift the edges and gently press the ham into the egg.
Step 6
Pour a little more egg batter onto the empty part of the pan (or a separate pan). Again, spread it thinly so it cooks evenly. This second egg layer will be cooked while the first one with the ham is being prepared.
Step 7
Carefully lift the first egg layer (with the ham) and place it, ham-side down, onto the second egg layer. Reduce the heat to low and cook slowly until both sides are golden brown and cooked through. Keep an eye on the heat and move the pan around to ensure it doesn’t burn. If you’re adding cheese, place a slice on top of the ham now.
Step 8
Spread a thin layer of grape or strawberry jam on one side of a toasted bread slice. You can use either jam or both, depending on your preference.
Step 9
Carefully place the cooked egg (with the ham) on top of the jam-spread bread. The egg might be slightly larger than the bread, so center it well.
Step 10
Drizzle ketchup in a zigzag pattern over the egg for added flavor. Adjust the amount of ketchup to your liking.
Step 11
Finally, top it with another slice of bread to complete this hearty ham toast. You can also spread a little jam or ketchup on the top slice of bread for extra taste.
Step 12
Cut the finished toast in half for easier eating. You can cut it diagonally or into two equal halves, perfect for kids.
Step 13
Serve on a nice plate for a visually appealing and delicious upgraded ham street toast! It’s best enjoyed while still warm.
