Veggie-Packed Bacon Yakisoba
#StoreBoughtYakisoba #YakisobaRecipe #Elevate Your Store-Bought Yakisoba for a Richer, More Satisfying Meal!
Craving a delicious plate of yakisoba, I picked up a store-bought kit from the supermarket. While you could simply cook it as is, I wanted to make it more special! This recipe jazzes up your store-bought yakisoba by loading it with plenty of cabbage for sweetness, adding the savory aroma of bacon, and finishing with the delightful crunch of bean sprouts. A sprinkle of katsuobushi at the end adds an irresistible smoky umami. Prepare to be amazed by how this simple kit transforms into a yakisoba that tastes anything but store-bought!
Ingredients- Store-bought Yakisoba kit (for 3 servings)
- 1/4 head of Cabbage (shredded)
- 10 slices of Bacon (cut into bite-sized pieces)
- 1 tsp Minced Garlic
- Pinch of Black Pepper (freshly ground)
- 2 cups Bean Sprouts (rinsed)
- 1 tsp Chopped Scallions (green onions)
- 1 handful Katsuobushi (bonito flakes)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Heat a tablespoon of oil in a large pan or wok over medium heat. Add the cut bacon and cook until it’s nicely browned and crispy, rendering its fat. Once the bacon is cooked, add the shredded cabbage and the included vegetable flakes from your yakisoba kit. Stir-fry everything together until the cabbage begins to soften and turn translucent.
Step 2
Add the minced garlic and black pepper to the pan, and stir-fry for about a minute until fragrant. You’ll notice the cabbage starting to release its moisture, and the bacon will impart its delicious savory aroma. As the vegetables cook down, they’ll release more liquid.
Step 3
Now, add the yakisoba noodles to the pan. Resist the urge to separate them forcefully! Instead, let the heat of the pan work its magic. Gently flip the noodles a few times, and they will naturally loosen and separate on their own. Once the noodles have loosened, add the yakisoba sauce packet. Toss everything together thoroughly, ensuring the sauce coats every strand of noodle and vegetable. Continue to stir-fry until the sauce is well-absorbed.
Step 4
Once the sauce is evenly distributed, reduce the heat to low or turn it off temporarily. Pile the rinsed bean sprouts on top of the noodles. Cover the pan for a minute or two, or gently toss them into the noodles, allowing the residual heat to cook the bean sprouts until they are tender-crisp. We want them to retain a pleasant crunch.
Step 5
When the bean sprouts are cooked to your liking, sprinkle the chopped scallions over the yakisoba. Their fresh aroma will add another layer of flavor to the dish.
Step 6
Transfer the finished yakisoba to serving plates. Generously sprinkle the katsuobushi over the top. The heat from the noodles will cause the bonito flakes to dance, releasing their signature smoky, umami fragrance.
Step 7
And there you have it! A truly satisfying and flavor-packed yakisoba, elevated far beyond its store-bought origins. Enjoy your delicious creation!
