[Spicy Braised Potatoes] Super Easy Potatoes Braised with Versatile Soy Sauce
Effortlessly and speedily whip up this simple side dish with your homemade versatile soy sauce! A perfect quick addition to any meal.
Main Ingredients- 7 medium potatoes
- 2 Korean chili peppers (Cheongyang)
Seasoning- 1 cup versatile soy sauce
- A pinch of sesame seeds
- 1 cup versatile soy sauce
- A pinch of sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, peel the potatoes and cut them into bite-sized pieces. Soaking the cut potatoes in cold water for about 10 minutes helps to remove excess starch, resulting in a cleaner and tastier braised dish.
Step 2
Place the prepared potatoes in a deep pan or pot. Add just enough water to barely cover the potatoes. Using too much water will extend the cooking time, so adjust the amount appropriately.
Step 3
Begin by adding half of your pre-made versatile soy sauce to the pot. The amount of soy sauce can be adjusted based on the quantity of potatoes and your preference for saltiness, but it’s best to start with a smaller amount and add more later to avoid over-salting.
Step 4
Start cooking over medium heat. Once it comes to a boil, reduce the heat slightly and simmer until the potatoes are tender. Taste the sauce periodically and if it’s not salty enough, add the remaining versatile soy sauce to reach your desired flavor. (This recipe uses 1 cup in total, but feel free to adjust to your taste!)
Step 5
When the potatoes are tender and the sauce has reduced to a syrupy consistency, add the sliced Korean chili peppers. These peppers will add a pleasant spicy kick that enhances the overall flavor of the braised potatoes. (Adjust the number of peppers according to your spice preference.)
Step 6
Finally, transfer the braised potatoes to a serving dish. Sprinkle a pinch of toasted sesame seeds over the top for a nutty aroma and added flavor. Your delicious and spicy-sweet braised potatoes are now ready to be enjoyed with a bowl of warm rice!
