Main Ingredients

  • 1 pack Vienna sausages (approx. 200g)
  • 1 sheet of square fish cake (approx. 100g)
  • 1/3 onion (small size)

Seasoning Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1/2 tsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes, optional, omit for kids)
  • 1 tsp oligo-dang (isomalt syrup)
  • 1 tsp mirin (or cooking sake)
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 tsp minced garlic
  • A little chopped green onion
  • A little toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, make a few shallow slits on the Vienna sausages. This helps them cook evenly and absorb the sauce better. Don’t cut too deep. Slice the fish cake into 2cm wide strips, suitable for children to eat. Thinly slice the onion to a similar size. Heat a wide pan over medium heat and add 1 Tbsp of olive oil. Add the scored Vienna sausages, sliced fish cake, and onion to the pan and stir-fry together. Cook for about 2 minutes to coat the ingredients with oil. Then, add 1 Tbsp of oyster sauce and 1 tsp of mirin to enhance the flavor.

Step 2

As you stir-fry, you’ll notice the slits on the Vienna sausages start to open slightly. At this point, add the remaining seasoning ingredients: 1/2 tsp gochugaru (omit or use very little if making for kids) and 1/4 tsp minced garlic. Stir-fry everything together until the ingredients are evenly coated with the sauce. Be mindful of the heat to prevent the sauce from burning, and continue to stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes. Once all ingredients are cooked and have a appetizing color, just before turning off the heat, add 1 tsp of oligo-dang for a glossy finish and sweetness.

Step 3

Finally, garnish with a sprinkle of chopped green onion and toasted sesame seeds. Serve this delicious Vienna sausage and fish cake stir-fry immediately while warm. It can also be cooled and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator to enjoy as a tasty side dish the next day. It’s wonderfully chewy when hot and has a different charm when it cools down.
