Air Fryer Butter-Roasted Squid Recipe

Making Delicious Butter-Roasted Squid with Semi-Dried Squid (Thank You Farmers)

I’ve recently discovered a love for simple recipes using my air fryer. I tried making the butter-roasted squid from the TV show ‘Al-Toran’ using my air fryer, and it turned out wonderfully! I have a feeling this will become a regular in my cooking rotation. When you’re craving a beer at home, this butter-roasted squid is the perfect accompaniment!

Main Ingredients
  • 2 semi-dried squids (pidegi)
  • 2 Tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 1/2 finely minced chili pepper (optional, for a hint of spice)
  • A touch of wasabi (Japanese horseradish)
  • Butter (cut into small pieces)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of sugar
  • Pinch of black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the squid. Make vertical scores on the inside of the squid body, about 2-3 cuts. Then, make horizontal scores about 2 cm apart. This helps the seasoning penetrate and makes it easier to eat after cooking. Finally, cut along the sides of the squid body to make it easier to tear and share.

Step 2

Next, let’s make the special sauce for the squid. In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon of honey, half a finely minced chili pepper (adjust to your spice preference), and a small amount of wasabi. Mix these ingredients thoroughly with a spoon until you have a smooth, well-combined sauce.

Step 3

Generously brush the prepared sauce all over the squid. Sprinkle a pinch of salt, pepper, and sugar over the sauced squid for seasoning. Lastly, place small pieces of butter on top of the squid. The butter will melt and add a rich, savory flavor.

Step 4

Now it’s time for the air fryer! Place the prepared squid into the air fryer basket. Cook at 180°C (350°F) for about 12 minutes. Keep in mind that cooking times can vary depending on the dryness of the squid and your specific air fryer model. It’s a good idea to check the squid every 5 minutes and adjust the cooking time accordingly. I found that 10 minutes for the body and 8 minutes for the tentacles yielded the best results for me.

Step 5

Voila! Your delicious butter-roasted squid is ready. You can adjust the cooking time to your preference for how well-done you like your squid. I personally enjoy it a bit more well-cooked and crisp, so I sometimes extend the cooking time. Enjoy this delightful treat made right at home!
