Main Ingredients
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 3-4 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 cups Tteokbokki rice cakes (approx. 300g)
  • Bacon (optional, as desired)
  • Sausages (optional, as desired)

Cream Sauce Seasoning
  • 200ml Milk
  • 2 slices Cheese (Cheddar or Mozzarella)
  • Pinch of Black Pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the foundational aromatics. Finely mince the onion and garlic. You can also use pre-minced garlic. (If you like, finely chop green onions to add extra flavor.)

Step 2

Rinse the tteokbokki rice cakes lightly in cold water to remove excess starch. Drain them well in a colander. It’s important to prevent the rice cakes from sticking together.

Step 3

Heat a little cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the minced onion, minced garlic, and green onions (if using). Sauté until fragrant and the onions become translucent, which will enhance their sweetness.

Step 4

Once the onions and garlic are nicely sautéed, carefully pour in 200ml of milk. Keep the heat at a medium-low setting while it simmers.

Step 5

Add a pinch of black pepper to the sauce for an extra layer of flavor. Be mindful not to add too much, as it can become spicy.

Step 6

Now, add the prepared tteokbokki rice cakes to the sauce and stir to coat them evenly. Make sure the rice cakes are well-mixed with the sauce.

Step 7

Place the 2 slices of cheese on top of the rice cakes to enrich the cream sauce. The cheese will melt, making the sauce even richer and smoother.

Step 8

Once the cheese starts melting, reduce the heat to low. Stir continuously and gently for about 5 to 10 minutes to prevent the rice cakes from sticking to the bottom. Cook until the sauce reaches your desired consistency. If the rice cakes are too firm, you can add a little more milk.

Step 9

Serve the finished cream tteokbokki in a beautiful bowl. (For an even more satisfying meal, you can add pre-cooked bacon or sausages. However, it’s delicious even without them!)
