Main Ingredients
- 1 head of fresh broccoli
Dressing Ingredients
- 3 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 tsp fine salt
- 1 tsp granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp minced garlic
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (gochugaru)
- 1 Tbsp vinegar (apple cider vinegar, white wine vinegar, etc., to taste)
- 3 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 tsp fine salt
- 1 tsp granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp minced garlic
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (gochugaru)
- 1 Tbsp vinegar (apple cider vinegar, white wine vinegar, etc., to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare your fresh broccoli. Choosing vibrant, fresh broccoli is key to the salad’s flavor. We’ll be using the stems as well.
Step 2
Cut the broccoli into bite-sized florets. If the stems are thick, you can peel the outer layer or slice them thinly. Wash the broccoli thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt or debris. Place the washed broccoli in a steamer basket over boiling water and steam for about 5 minutes. Be careful not to overcook it; you want it to remain crisp.
Step 3
Once steamed, don’t immediately rinse the broccoli with cold water. Instead, let it cool down in the bowl for a bit as the steam dissipates. Allowing it to cool naturally will enhance its natural sweetness and improve its texture.
Step 4
Now, let’s make the delicious dressing. In a separate bowl, combine 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil, 1/2 teaspoon of fine salt, 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of finely minced garlic, 1/2 teaspoon of red pepper flakes (gochugaru), and 1 tablespoon of vinegar. Feel free to use your preferred type of vinegar, such as apple cider or white wine vinegar, for a personalized taste.
Step 5
Whisk the dressing ingredients together thoroughly using a whisk or chopsticks. Ensure the salt and sugar are completely dissolved and all ingredients are well combined. Proper mixing is the foundation of a great dressing!
Step 6
Pour the freshly made sweet and tangy dressing evenly over the cooled broccoli in the bowl.
Step 7
Gently toss the broccoli with the dressing using a spatula or spoon, being careful not to break the florets. Make sure the dressing coats every piece evenly. Coating the broccoli with the dressing makes it even more delicious.
Step 8
Finally, cover the finished broccoli salad with plastic wrap or place it in an airtight container and refrigerate. Chilling it for at least 30 minutes allows the flavors to meld together, resulting in a fresher, more delicious broccoli salad. It’s highly recommended to serve it chilled!
