Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s start by preparing the ingredients for the stir-fried cabbage and fish cakes. For the cabbage, use about 3 leaves from half a medium cabbage. (Feel free to use less if you have too much.) Prepare 2 pieces of fish cakes, a small bunch of green onions, 1 piece of carrot, and 1/4 of an onion.
Step 2
Briefly blanch the fish cakes in hot water to remove any impurities, then slice them into bite-sized pieces, about 5cm long. Slice the cabbage to a similar length as the fish cakes. Finely julienne the onion and carrot, and slice the green onions diagonally.
Step 3
Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a pan. Add the sliced fish cakes, cabbage, onion, and carrot. Then, add all the seasoning ingredients: 2.5 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1/3 tablespoon of red pepper flakes, 1/3 tablespoon of sugar, and 1/2 tablespoon of minced garlic.
Step 4
Now, stir-fry over medium-high heat, mixing well to prevent burning. It’s crucial to cook until the cabbage is just slightly translucent and has softened about halfway – don’t overcook it, or it will lose its crispiness!
Step 5
Once the cabbage is about half-cooked, add the sliced green onions, 1/2 tablespoon of crushed sesame seeds, and 1/2 tablespoon of sesame oil. Stir-fry briefly one more time to combine everything.
Step 6
And there you have it – a delicious and quick stir-fried cabbage and fish cake dish! When seasoning for children, keep the taste mild to avoid it being too salty. The moisture released from the cabbage prevents it from becoming too watery, and the seasoning is just right for kids. If adults are eating, feel free to adjust the soy sauce quantity to your preference for a richer flavor.
Step 7
I’ve plated the finished stir-fried cabbage and fish cakes on a nice dish. It looks appetizing and is packed with nutrients! For all the moms who usually just stir-fry fish cakes, try adding plenty of cabbage for a healthy and delicious side dish now. It’s a great opportunity to get your children to eat more vegetables. I just had it for lunch with rice, and the refreshing, slightly sweet taste from the cabbage made my palate very happy. It’s easy to find the ingredients and simple to make, making it a breeze to prepare side dishes for your kids!
