Essential Ingredients
  • 340g Bean Sprouts (1 package)
  • 2.5 Tbsp Soy Sauce for Soup (Guk-ganjang)
  • 1.5 Tbsp Red Pepper Flakes (Gochugaru)
  • 1.5 Tbsp Sesame Oil
  • 1 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds (crushed)
  • 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 1 Green Onion (thinly sliced, white part mainly)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, wash 340g of bean sprouts (one package) thoroughly. Place the washed bean sprouts in a pot and add enough water to fully submerge them. Start boiling over high heat.

Step 2

Once the water is boiling vigorously all over, gently flip the bean sprouts, moving the ones from the top to the bottom. This ensures they cook evenly.

Step 3

After flipping, continue to boil vigorously for about 2 to 3 minutes until evenly cooked. To maintain a crispy texture, it’s crucial to boil with the pot lid open from the beginning. Covering the pot can release excess steam, making the sprouts soggy.

Step 4

Immediately after boiling, rinse the bean sprouts under cold running water to cool them down and eliminate any beany odor. Gently shake them while rinsing. Draining the water thoroughly is key to great flavor; I highly recommend using a salad spinner to remove as much moisture as possible. Less water means better seasoning absorption and a tastier result.

Step 5

In a large bowl, combine all the seasoning ingredients and mix well to create a delicious dressing. Add 2.5 Tbsp soy sauce for soup, 1.5 Tbsp red pepper flakes, 1.5 Tbsp sesame oil, 1 Tbsp crushed sesame seeds, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, and 1 thinly sliced green onion. Mix everything together. You can adjust with a pinch of salt or sugar to your taste if desired.

Step 6

Finally, add the thoroughly drained bean sprouts to the bowl with the seasoning. Now, use the strength of your wrist to mix and ‘scrub’ them vigorously into the seasoning! This energetic mixing ensures the dressing is evenly distributed and enhances both the texture and flavor of the seasoned bean sprouts. Enjoy your delicious creation!
