Main Ingredients
  • 3 potatoes (medium-sized)
  • 30g butter
  • 2g salt (approx. 1/4 tsp)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, peel the potatoes thoroughly and cut them into small cubes, about 1.5 to 2cm in size. Place the cubed potatoes in a pot and add just enough water to barely cover them. (Avoid adding too much water.)

Step 2

Transfer the cubed potatoes and water to a microwave-safe container. Loosely cover it with a lid or plastic wrap with a few holes poked in it, then microwave for about 7 minutes. The cooking time may vary depending on the size of the potato cubes and your microwave’s power. The key is to cook them until they are soft enough to be easily pierced with a fork.

Step 3

Once cooked, drain the potatoes completely using a sieve. Any remaining water can make the potato balls mushy. Add the 2g of salt to the drained potatoes and mix lightly.

Step 4

Add the 30g of butter to the warm potatoes. Using a fork or a potato masher, gently mash the potatoes while mixing them thoroughly with the butter. The melting butter will blend in and add a lovely savory flavor.

Step 5

Mash the potato and butter mixture until it’s smooth and lump-free, creating a soft dough. Once the dough is ready, scoop out portions and roll them into small, bite-sized balls.

Step 6

Arrange the potato balls in the air fryer basket, making sure they don’t touch each other to prevent sticking. Preheat your air fryer to 170°C (338°F) and cook for 12 minutes for the first round. This initial cooking helps the balls set and hold their shape.

Step 7

This is what the potato balls look like after the first cooking round. The surface should be starting to turn slightly golden.

Step 8

Carefully flip the potato balls to ensure even cooking on all sides. Return them to the air fryer and cook for another 10 minutes at 170°C (338°F) for the second round. This will make the exterior wonderfully crispy while keeping the inside moist and tender.

Step 9

Here are the perfectly cooked potato balls after the second round! They will be very hot right out of the air fryer, so please transfer them to a plate and let them cool slightly before enjoying. They are best savored warm for that delightful balance of crispy outside and fluffy inside.
