Dumplings
  • 6 frozen mandu (dumplings)
  • 10 frozen boiled mandu (dumplings)

Vegetables
  • A little bit of cabbage (thinly shredded)
  • 1/2 onion (thinly shredded)
  • 1/4 bell pepper (thinly shredded)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Preheat your air fryer to 180°C (350°F). For best results, use the two-tiered rack. Place the frozen dumplings on the bottom rack and, if desired, add some hot dogs for the kids on the top rack. Cook for a total of 12 minutes. After 10 minutes, remove the hot dogs (if using). Increase the air fryer temperature to 200°C (400°F) and cook for an additional 5 minutes to achieve a wonderfully crispy texture for the dumplings.

Step 2

While the dumplings are crisping up, let’s prepare the delicious sweet and sour sauce. In a saucepan, combine 3 Tbsp water, soy sauce, ketchup, oligodang, plum extract, and vinegar. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, add the thinly shredded cabbage, onion, and bell pepper. Cook until the vegetables are slightly tender, just wilted. In a small bowl, whisk together 1 Tbsp cornstarch and 1 Tbsp water to create a slurry. Gradually pour this slurry into the simmering sauce while stirring continuously, until the sauce reaches your desired thickness. Remove from heat.

Step 3

Listen for the ‘beep’ – your perfectly fried sweet and sour mandu are ready! They’ll be golden brown and satisfyingly crispy on the outside, while remaining tender and moist on the inside. Enjoy this delightfully savory and slightly sweet fried dumpling creation.

Step 4

Arrange the crispy fried dumplings on a serving plate. Generously pour the warm sweet and sour sauce over the dumplings. Alternatively, you can serve the sauce on the side for dipping (‘jjik-meok’ style), which is also a delightful way to enjoy them. This dish is wonderful served as is, or with your favorite dipping sauce.
