Fragrant Homemade Peach Preserves (Canned Peaches)

Summer Delight: How to Make Sweet Canned Peaches at Home

This year’s peaches are exceptionally delicious! We received a generous amount from a friend’s peach farm and decided to make delightful peach preserves to enjoy them for longer. Adding white wine not only reduces the amount of sugar needed but also extends the shelf life, making it a fantastic summer treat. Served chilled with ice, these canned peaches are incredibly refreshing.

Ingredients
  • 5 fresh peaches (preferably white peaches)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • 3 Tbsp fresh lemon juice

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Look at this beautiful peach color! Today, we’re using white peaches. First, wash the peaches thoroughly under running water.

Step 2

Peel the peaches, remove the pits, and cut them into bite-sized cubes. As soon as they are cut, sprinkle them with the prepared lemon juice to prevent browning. Also, measure out your white wine and sugar.

Step 3

Place the cubed peaches into a pot. Handle them gently to avoid mashing.

Step 4

Sprinkle the measured sugar and pour in the white wine over the peaches. The sugar will draw out the moisture from the peaches as they cook.

Step 5

Next, add the freshly squeezed lemon juice. If you don’t have fresh lemon juice, bottled lemon juice is a good substitute. If neither is available, a small amount of vinegar can be used. Lemon juice or vinegar is essential to prevent the peaches from browning and to add a pleasant tang.

Step 6

Simmer the mixture over medium-low heat for about 15 to 20 minutes. Once the peaches are tender and the syrup starts to thicken, increase the heat slightly and continue to cook for another 5 minutes. While the preserves are still hot, carefully ladle them into sterilized glass jars. Sealing them while hot creates a vacuum seal, which significantly extends their shelf life. Stored in the refrigerator, these homemade peach preserves can last until winter!
