Frozen Dumpling Cheese Gratin
Super Easy 5-Minute Recipe! Cheesy Frozen Dumpling Gratin (JMT)
This is a recipe for a cheesy frozen dumpling gratin that anyone can easily make using frozen dumplings. Experience the fantastic harmony of crispy dumplings and gooey, stretchy cheese! It’s perfect as a snack for kids or a late-night treat.
Main Ingredients
- 8-10 frozen dumplings
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese (approx. 100g)
- 1 cup tomato sauce (approx. 200g)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
If you’d like to add more texture and flavor to your dumpling gratin, I highly recommend thinly slicing and adding some onion. The sweetness and crispiness of the onion will elevate the flavors of the dumplings and cheese. Today, I skipped it for a quick and simple preparation, but I regret not adding it! You can also add or omit the processed cheese slice according to your preference.
Step 2
First, let’s defrost the frozen dumplings so they’re easy to cook. If you have enough time, thawing them at room temperature is the best method. For faster preparation, you can use the defrost function on your microwave, or like me, cover the dumplings with plastic wrap and microwave them for 1-2 minutes to thaw. When covering with plastic wrap, poke a few holes with a fork to allow steam to escape.
Step 3
Once the dumplings are thawed, place them in an oven-safe dish or a heatproof container. If the dumplings are small, you can use them whole. However, if they are large like the ones I used, cutting them in half will help the sauce and cheese penetrate evenly.
Step 4
Now, spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dumplings. This sauce is key to the flavor of your dumpling gratin, making the dumplings moist and adding a rich taste.
Step 5
You can use regular spaghetti tomato sauce, which works great. But if you have rosé tomato sauce on hand, give it a try! The creamy and rich flavor unique to rosé sauce will make your dumpling gratin even more special and delicious. You’ll experience a slightly deeper flavor compared to regular tomato sauce.
Step 6
Generously sprinkle the mozzarella cheese all over the tomato sauce. Cheese is the star of a dumpling gratin! Adding plenty of cheese will create that desirable gooey, stretchy visual.
Step 7
If you have any leftover processed cheese in your fridge, cut it into small pieces and scatter them over the mozzarella. I’m a big cheese lover, so I added a lot! Even before it’s fully cooked, it already looks incredibly appetizing, making my mouth water.
Step 8
Now it’s time to bake the dumpling gratin to perfection. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (400°F) for about 8 minutes. It’s ready when the cheese is melted and golden brown, and the dumplings are heated through. If you don’t have an oven, you can also use a microwave. Using a microwave makes the cooking process even quicker and simpler.
Step 9
After 8 minutes, your frozen dumpling gratin is ready, filling the air with a delicious aroma! Enjoy your hot, cheesy dumpling gratin right away. It will be a fantastic meal or snack.
