Grilled Yam
  • 100g peeled yam, cut
  • A little honey (for dipping)
  • A little sesame oil (for dipping)
  • A pinch of salt (for dipping)

Yam Juice
  • 70g peeled yam
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • A pinch of cinnamon powder (for topping)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, carefully peel the yam and then slice it into approximately 0.5cm thick pieces, making them easy to eat. It’s recommended to wear gloves while preparing the yam, as it can release a sticky sap.

Step 2

Heat a grill pan without any oil. Place the sliced yam onto the hot pan. Grill over medium-low heat, flipping occasionally, until both sides are lightly golden brown. This simple grilling process is all it takes!

Step 3

If you don’t have a grill pan, a regular frying pan works perfectly well. Lightly coat the frying pan with perilla oil (deul-gireum) or sesame oil, then add the yam slices and cook over low heat until gently browned. The added oil will enhance the flavor.

Step 4

The grilled yam can be enjoyed as is, but for an extra layer of flavor, prepare a simple dipping sauce. In a small bowl, mix a little honey with a touch of sesame oil and a tiny pinch of salt. Dipping the warm, grilled yam into this sweet and savory mixture creates a delightful contrast.

Step 5

Now, let’s make the Yam Juice! In a blender, combine 70g of the prepared yam, 1 cup of yogurt, and 1 tablespoon of honey for sweetness. If you’re on a diet, consider using plain, unsweetened yogurt or even milk as a substitute. For an extra smooth texture, adding a frozen banana slice is also a great idea.

Step 6

Secure the lid on the blender and blend until the mixture is smooth and creamy. The yam, yogurt, and honey will combine beautifully to create a refreshing Yam Juice. You can adjust the consistency by adding a little ice or cold water if desired.

Step 7

Finally, sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon powder over the finished Yam Juice for an aromatic finish that complements the yam’s flavor wonderfully. (Note: You might also find the ‘@6902852 Yam Kimchi’ recipe helpful for exploring more ways to enjoy yam.)
