Homemade Green Tea Frappuccino
A Refreshing Homemade Green Tea Frappuccino Smoothie for Kids
After posting my coffee frappuccino recipe, my son, who can’t drink coffee, asked me to make his favorite Starbucks green tea frappuccino. I’ve created a homemade version for him! While commercial green tea frappuccinos tend to be very sweet due to excessive syrup, this recipe is designed with a reduced sugar content to be healthier and more enjoyable. My son commented that it tastes good but asked for it to be a little sweeter next time. Haha! 😄
Ingredients
- 2 packs (200ml each) Frozen Low-Fat Milk
- 1/4 container Vanilla Ice Cream
- 30g Green Tea Powder
- 1 tsp Honey
- 1 tsp Caramel Syrup (Optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Freeze two 200ml packs of low-fat milk for at least 5 hours, or until completely solid. Freezing the milk is key to achieving a thick, creamy, and frosty smoothie texture.
Step 2
Once the milk is frozen solid, remove it from the packaging and cut it into 1-2 cm cubes. Placing parchment paper on your cutting board will prevent sticking and make it easier to handle. Dicing the frozen milk helps your blender process it more smoothly.
Step 3
Prepare 1/4 of a container of vanilla ice cream. You can substitute this with green tea ice cream if you prefer, but vanilla ice cream allows the green tea flavor to shine through more prominently.
Step 4
Measure out 30g of green tea powder. This amount will yield a pale khaki color. If you desire a richer, darker green color like those found in cafes, you may need to increase the powder to 60-70g. However, considering caffeine intake for children, 30g is recommended for a two-serving batch.
Step 5
Combine the cubed frozen milk, vanilla ice cream, and green tea powder in your blender. Ensure the lid is securely fastened before blending.
Step 6
On the first try, I added one banana instead of honey. My son immediately detected the banana and playfully chided me, saying green tea frappuccinos don’t have bananas! 😂 So, for the second attempt, I omitted the banana and used honey instead.
Step 7
If your blender has a smoothie setting, use it. Otherwise, pulse the blender on and off, adjusting the speed as needed to ensure a smooth consistency without overworking the motor. Taste the mixture and add 1 teaspoon of honey if you desire more sweetness, then blend again until smooth.
Step 8
Your delicious and refreshing homemade green tea frappuccino is ready! It’s perfect for enjoying with your little ones.
Step 9
I had some leftover caramel syrup from a pudding, so I drizzled it over the finished frappuccino for an extra touch of sweetness and flair. (Optional)
