Homemade Peach Jam
Easy & Delicious Homemade Peach Jam Recipe Using Summer Peaches!
Got your hands on some delicious summer peaches at a great price? Preserve their sweetness by making this wonderful homemade peach jam! It’s the perfect way to enjoy the seasonal fruit for longer and capture its fresh flavor.
Ingredients
- 5kg ripe peaches (yellow or white peaches work well)
- 1.5kg granulated sugar (about 30% of the peach weight)
- 1/2 cup lemon juice (using a standard paper cup, approx. 100ml)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, carefully select your peaches. Choose fruits that are ripe, firm, and fragrant for the best jam. Avoid overly soft or bruised peaches.
Step 2
Wash the selected peaches thoroughly under running water. You can leave the skins on for added texture and nutrients, or peel them for a smoother jam. Remove the pits and cut the peaches into bite-sized pieces, such as cubes.
Step 3
Place the prepared peaches into a large pot or saucepan. Add one-third of the total sugar (1.5kg) and mix well with the peaches. Peaches release a lot of natural juice, so do not add any water. The sugar will draw out the moisture to create the jam base.
Step 4
Heat the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Then, stir in the lemon juice. Lemon juice not only brightens the color and adds a fresh tartness but also acts as a natural preservative.
Step 5
Reduce the heat to low and continue to simmer the jam until it reaches your desired consistency. Remember that the jam will thicken considerably as it cools, so it’s best to stop cooking when it still seems slightly on the runnier side. Make sure to stir frequently to prevent sticking to the bottom of the pot.
Step 6
Once cooled, transfer the delicious homemade peach jam into sterilized jars and store them in the refrigerator. It’s perfect for spreading on toast for a quick breakfast, as a sweet treat for kids, or even for serving with coffee to guests. After enjoying all this peach jam, I’m planning to make some grape jam next!
