Essential Ingredients
- Xylitol powder (sugar substitute)
- Flavor syrup for taste and aroma (e.g., strawberry syrup, banana syrup)
- Silicone molds in various shapes
- Food coloring (desired colors)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s get started on making some delicious xylitol candies! The ingredients are very simple. You’ll need the key ingredient, xylitol powder, a syrup to add flavor and aroma, silicone molds for shaping, and a scraper and paper cups for handling the mixture.
Step 2
First, pour all the xylitol powder into a saucepan. Gently heat it over medium-low heat until it melts. Be careful not to burn it by using too high heat. It’s better to melt it until it becomes slightly opaque rather than completely transparent, as this helps achieve the best candy texture. Once it’s sufficiently melted, immediately turn off the heat. Overheating can make the candy too hard when it sets.
Step 3
Quickly transfer the melted xylitol to a paper cup. Be cautious as it’s hot! Now it’s time to add the syrup for flavor and aroma. I’m using strawberry syrup to make a refreshingly fruity strawberry candy. Add the syrup and mix quickly and thoroughly to avoid lumps. Even mixing ensures a delicious strawberry-flavored candy.
Step 4
Next, pour the mixture from the paper cup into your silicone molds. Pouring slowly from the edge of the mold will help minimize air bubbles and create a prettier shape. Since this is my first time, I poured from the middle, but next time I’ll definitely pour from the edge! It’s best to fill the molds about 80-90% full, as the candy might expand slightly as it cools.
Step 5
Finally, use a scraper or spatula to smooth the surface of the candy in the mold. This will give your candies a neat and clean finish. Make sure to scrape off any excess to enhance the overall appearance.
Step 6
Once the first batch in the molds starts to set a little, it’s time to make banana-flavored candies with the remaining xylitol mixture! Add banana coloring to it, mix well, and pour into the prepared molds. After about 1 to 2 hours, all the candies should be completely set. You can let them harden at room temperature, or for faster setting, place them in the refrigerator for a short while.
Step 7
Voila! Our cute xylitol candies, made with my child, are finally complete! I was surprised by how many we made. The vibrant colors make them look even more appealing!
Step 8
Aren’t these heart-shaped candies particularly charming and cute? Make these visually appealing and delicious healthy candies yourself! Remember that xylitol has a recommended daily intake, so it’s best to moderate consumption to about 4-5 candies per day for you and your child. Enjoy them healthily and deliciously!
