Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the vegetables for the hamburg steak patties. Use a hand blender or food processor to finely mince the onion, button mushrooms, and garlic. It’s best to mince them finely but leave a little texture rather than making them completely smooth.
Step 2
In the same way, place the ground beef and ground pork in the hand blender and process together. Be careful not to over-process the meat; grinding it to a moderate coarseness will result in a more satisfying texture.
Step 3
Melt 1 Tbsp of butter in a preheated pan over medium heat. Add the minced vegetables from step 1, minced garlic (optional), a pinch of salt, and pepper. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the vegetables become translucent. Let the sautéed vegetables cool slightly.
Step 4
In a bowl, combine the ground beef and pork. Add the breadcrumbs, 1 Tbsp steak sauce, 2 Tbsp cooking wine, minced garlic (optional), salt, and pepper. (Skip if you’ve already added the sautéed vegetables from step 2).
Step 5
Add the cooled sautéed vegetables from step 2 to the meat mixture in step 3. Knead with your hands for about 5 minutes until the mixture becomes sticky and cohesive. Once the mixture is well-combined, divide it into portions and shape them into round, flat hamburg steak patties. Lightly dusting your hands with flour or breadcrumbs can help prevent sticking while shaping.
Step 6
Heat a pan over medium-high heat and melt 1 Tbsp of butter. Place the shaped hamburg steak patties in the pan and sear them until golden brown on both sides. Once browned, reduce the heat to low, add about 2-3 Tbsp of water, cover the pan, and continue to cook for about 5-7 minutes until the patties are cooked through. You can test for doneness by inserting a skewer; if the juices run clear, they are ready.
Step 7
Now, let’s make the sauce to accompany the hamburg steak. In a clean pan, melt 2 Tbsp of butter over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onion and sliced button mushrooms. Sauté until the onion is translucent and the mushrooms are lightly browned.
Step 8
Once the vegetables and mushrooms are well sautéed, push them to one side of the pan. Melt a little more butter in the cleared space and add 1 Tbsp of flour. Cook the flour for about 1 minute over low heat to make a roux, stirring to prevent lumps. Gradually whisk in 1/2 paper cup (approx. 100ml) of water until the sauce is smooth and lump-free.
Step 9
To the sauce from step 7, add 20g of curry sauce powder, 3 Tbsp ketchup, 3 Tbsp steak sauce, 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp sugar, and 1 Tbsp corn syrup. Stir well and simmer for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
Step 10
Finally, place the nicely cooked hamburg steak patty on a plate and generously ladle the warm sauce over it. Serve with rice or a side salad for a hearty and impressive meal. Enjoy a restaurant-quality taste right at home!
