Ingredients
  • 400g Cheongpo Muk (or Dongbu Muk)
  • 2/3 tsp Fine Salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
  • 2 handfuls Dried Seaweed Flakes (Gim-garu)
  • 0.5 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare 400g of cheongpo muk. You can also use dongbu muk. Cut the muk into bite-sized pieces, for example, about 1.5cm thick.

Step 2

In a pot, bring plenty of water to a rolling boil. Once the water is boiling, add the cut cheongpo muk and blanch for about 3 minutes. Be careful not to overcook, as it can become mushy and lose its texture.

Step 3

Immediately after blanching, drain the cheongpo muk and gently rinse it under cold running water. Rinsing in cold water helps maintain its firm, chewy texture and removes any sliminess. It’s important to drain the water completely using a colander. Remaining water can dilute the seasoning.

Step 4

To the drained muk, add 2/3 teaspoon of fine salt to season. It’s best to adjust the saltiness according to your preference. Use less if you prefer a milder taste, and a bit more if you like it saltier.

Step 5

Now, add 2 handfuls of dried seaweed flakes (gim-garu) for a nutty flavor and 1 tablespoon of sesame oil for aroma. You can use crumbled seasoned seaweed or nori sheets for kimbap.

Step 6

Finally, sprinkle 0.5 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds. These add a pleasant crunch and nutty aroma, enhancing the overall flavor of the salad.

Step 7

Now, gently mix all the prepared ingredients together with your hands. The key is to mix softly to avoid breaking the muk. Ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed.

Step 8

And there you have it! A soft, fluffy, and delicious cheongpo muk (or dongbu muk) salad is ready. It’s a taste that children truly love, so enjoy it with your whole family. It’s a simple yet nutritious side dish that’s perfect for any meal!
