Nutrient-Rich Chive Pancake: A Flavorful Delicacy Made with Fine Chives

Hello, I’m Cindy, a designer who loves to cook! Today, I’ve made a ‘Nutrient-Rich Chive Pancake’ that’s packed with goodness, just like its name suggests. Nutrient chives are also known as ‘fine chives’ (silbuchu). They are thinner and smaller than regular chives but are said to be very rich in nutrients, which is likely why they’re called ‘nutrient chives.’ Because they aren’t very long, I used them whole in the pancake, creating a visually stunning dish that’s perfect for entertaining guests. #NutrientChivePancake #ChivePancake #FineChivePancake #MakgeolliSnack #EasyRecipe

  • 1 Green Chili Pepper (finely chopped)

  • 1 tsp Minced Garlic
  • 1/2 tsp Sugar

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

I love chive pancakes because they can be made with simple ingredients into a wonderful dish. Today, I’ve prepared a single-serving portion, perfect for ‘A Single Person’s Meal.’ You can enjoy a hearty and healthy meal all by yourself!

Step 2

Rinse the nutrient chives under running water to thoroughly remove any dirt or debris. After washing, drain them well on a colander. This step is crucial for preventing the batter from becoming lumpy and for achieving a crispy texture.

Step 3

In a bowl, add 1 cup (about 150ml by paper cup) of pancake mix. Gradually add 100ml of water while stirring until you achieve a smooth batter with no lumps. I’ve used domestic wheat flour, which is good for your health! You can also add a little rice flour for an even crispier texture.

Step 4

Let’s also prepare the delicious dipping sauce that will elevate the flavor of the chive pancake. In a small bowl, combine 2 tsp of soy sauce and 1/2 tsp of sugar. Add 1 tsp of freshly minced garlic using a garlic press and mix well. If you like a bit of heat, you can add finely chopped chili peppers.

Step 5

Prepare a square-shaped pan and generously coat it with oil over medium-low heat. Once the pan is sufficiently hot, place about half of the washed and drained nutrient chives neatly in a row. Using a square pan will help maintain the chives’ shape. I usually avoid stainless steel pans because food tends to stick, but I’ve used one today since I need a square shape for presentation.

Step 6

Arrange the remaining half of the nutrient chives neatly in the same direction on top of the chives already in the pan. This ensures the batter coats the chives evenly.

Step 7

Gently spread out the chives placed on the pan, ensuring they are not overlapping and are laid out evenly. This helps in cooking the chives uniformly and allows the batter to adhere well.

Step 8

Carefully ladle the prepared pancake batter over the chives, spreading it evenly. It’s best to pour it thinly so that the chives’ crispiness is preserved while the pancake becomes wonderfully crispy.

Step 9

After pouring the batter, reduce the heat to low and cook for about 3-4 minutes. When the edges of the chives start to turn golden brown, it’s time to flip. A good tip is to gently shake the pan to see if the pancake moves freely without sticking.

Step 10

Once the chive pancake is beautifully golden brown, transfer it to a square plate, maintaining its shape. Pile the thinly sliced red onions in the center, then artfully arrange the finely chopped green chilies on top. Finally, drizzle the prepared dipping sauce over the vegetables. It’s ready to serve!

Step 11

To serve, use kitchen scissors to cut the chive pancake into manageable pieces, typically along the length, without disrupting its shape. This method preserves the long, elegant look of the chives while making them easy to enjoy. Savor this freshly made, warm nutrient-rich chive pancake with the delicious dipping sauce!
