Nutrient-Rich & Easy Broccoli Puree for Baby’s First Foods
[Rice Cooker Baby Food] Early Stage (1-3) ♪ Broccoli Puree
Hello! This is Bebe Rabbit’s Mom, here to help your little one on their healthy journey! Today, we’re making a simple puree using broccoli, a favorite ingredient for many! All you need is broccoli! This recipe makes 3 days’ worth, at 60ml per day.
Broccoli Puree
- Early Stage Rice Flour 12g (Sifted for extra smoothness)
- Fresh Broccoli 14g (Floret parts only)
- Filtered Water 240ml
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
For this puree, we’ll use 12g of early-stage rice flour. If your rice flour has any clumps, sifting it beforehand will result in an even smoother texture. We’ll also need 240ml of water. If you’re using a standard rice cooker baby food setting, this water amount is perfect.
Step 2
It’s important to prepare the fresh broccoli thoroughly for your baby’s safety and taste. First, wash the broccoli well under running water. To remove any bitterness or unwanted particles, we recommend soaking it briefly in water with a splash of vinegar for about 5 minutes, then rinsing again thoroughly. After rinsing, blanch the broccoli in boiling water for about 30 seconds to 1 minute. Be careful not to overcook it, as this can diminish its nutritional value.
Step 3
Now, let’s blend the blanched broccoli! Place the tender florets (the flower-like parts) into a blender or food processor and puree until very smooth. It’s best to avoid using the thicker stalk parts as they can be stringy. Once blended, strain the puree through a fine-mesh sieve. This step ensures a silky-smooth consistency that’s easy for your baby to digest.
Step 4
It’s time to combine everything in the rice cooker for a fuss-free cooking experience! Pour the 240ml of water into the inner pot of your rice cooker, then add the 12g of sifted rice flour. Next, add the strained broccoli puree. Make sure to stir everything thoroughly with a whisk or spatula to prevent any lumps from forming. Once all ingredients are well combined, select the ‘Baby Food’ or ‘Porridge’ setting on your rice cooker and press the ‘Reheat’ button. Your delicious broccoli puree will be ready in no time! If your rice cooker doesn’t have a dedicated baby food setting, you can cook it on low heat for about 10-15 minutes after it comes to a boil, stirring occasionally.
